Bithumb hack: On June 20, Bithumb announced its decision to stop all activities due to a hack attack during which about 30 million dollars were stolen in cryptocurrency.

The exchange assured customers that “resources are safe in your wallets”
At 2:40 CET, Bithumb wrote the first message about what had happened:
“[Notice for the temporary suspension of the deposits]
Due to the increasing safety issues, we are changing our wallet system.
Please do not deposit until we notify.
*All deposits are not deposited into your wallet until all changes are completed.”

The fact remains that in the Korean Tweet they mention 35 billion won (KRW) stolen, even if it is not yet known which cryptocurrencies were the ones afflicted.
A possible loss of 30 million dollars is nothing exceptional, especially when compared with that of January when 530 million dollars were stolen in NEM and other cryptocurrencies from the Japanese exchange Coincheck.
Nevertheless, after the news, the price of bitcoin fell rapidly, only to stabilise in the last 24 hours.
Last year the company generated profits of $300 million.
Given the limited extent of the damage, it is assumed that the hacker was able to enter the hot wallet of the exchange connected to the Internet.
Bithumb has also issued a press release in which they say that they will return all the funds to their customers and that the only drawback of this attack will be the interruption of deposits and withdrawals.
No details have been given as to the nature of the attack.
Bithumb is the largest exchange of cryptocurrencies in South Korea, which until last year had the world record, and was subsequently acquired by Binance. Tonight’s attack is the third hack suffered by the exchange in the last 12 months.
