The world of travel and hospitality has already been completely revolutionized by the birth of internet services such as Tripadvisor, AirBnB and Booking.com.
Intermediation through travel agencies appears to be on the way to extinction, but this has not led to the removal of the “Middleman“, it simply replaces it with centralised services in the hands of large companies that apply large margins.
To give an idea of the revenues of companies in the sector, Booking Holdings has a turnover of 12 billion dollars, Tripadvisor 1.2 and AirBnB about 2.6.
Important figures that end up crippling both customers and hotels. Can these intermediaries be eliminated via the blockchain?
Locktrip token wants to allow travellers to book hotels and accommodations without going through any intermediary, directly, evaluating the feedback and all in total transparency guaranteed by smart contracts, all on the Ethereum blockchain.
So we have a fully decentralized platform that allows you to offer and look for accommodations and that also provides basic feedback on the quality of service that is offered.
The connected token, called LOC is usable to pay for hotel services, making this crypto a kind of ABT, where the backing is made by the service. We tested the platform, currently only at an alpha level, to evaluate an accommodation in Rome the first week of July getting very interesting prices if paid in LOC, although we could not fully verify the quality of the service offered.
A new platform with commercial incentives for sharing should be launched soon.
An interesting project in its concept, but it does not seem to have reached maturity yet, the capitalization is only 8 million dollars and the daily trading is just over a hundred thousand dollars: if a large number of users really used LOCs to pay for their services, we would have to have a much higher turnover on the exchanges, although customers have the possibility to pay in FIAT currencies as well.
Locktrip launches an idea that can once again revolutionize the tourism sector, but it is not certain that they will be the main actor in the change.
