On this day, May 22nd, the famous Bitcoin Pizza Day is celebrated, commemorating the purchase of two pizzas for 10 thousand Bitcoin (BTC).
It is the tenth anniversary of this historic event for the blockchain world.
It was the distant 22nd May 2010 when Laszlo Hanyecz ordered 2 pizzas from Domino’s, located in Jacksonville, Florida (to commemorate the event there is a plaque in the pizza place), paying in BTC.
Since then, Laszlo is known as one of the first people to make a payment for a good using BTC.

Over time this event has gone down in history because the amount of BTC used and the equivalent in dollars, was frightening.
In 2010, in fact, 10 thousand BTC were about $43, but over the years their value has increased dramatically:
- 2011, less than $100,000;
- 2012, over $100,000;
- 2013, about $1.2 million;
- 2014, about $5.1 million;
- 2015, about $2.3 million;
- 2016, approximately $4.4 million;
- 2017, approximately $22 million;
- 2018, approximately $78 million;
- 2019, about $60 million.
Laszlo himself commemorated the event in 2018 with the purchase of 2 other pizzas by paying through Lightning Network and spending a total of about 0.00649 bitcoin (BTC).
How to celebrate Pizza Day 2020
Like every year, this BTC Pizza Day is celebrated all over the world by eating pizza.
There are also often offers on products or various meetups organized, although this year they will all be online due to the Coronavirus pandemic.
