Binance Charity, crypto donation to Unicef to deliver anti-Covid vaccines

Binance Charity has donated $1 million in cryptocurrency to Unicef to facilitate vaccinations against Covid-19.

Binance Charity is the charitable organization of the Binance exchange that collects cryptocurrency donations. It has long been committed to the fight against Covid-19, having already raised $5 million in the past and donated over 2 million individual protection devices to 26 countries.

With its latest $1 million donation to Unicef, Binance Charity aims to help the UN-affiliated organization by facilitating vaccination operations in 11 countries:

• Ghana, 
• Nigeria, 
• Kenya, 
• Uganda, 
• Egypt, 
• Indonesia, 
• Philippines, 
• Vietnam, 
• Bangladesh, 
• Ukraine,
• Brazil.

As a result, 500,000 doses of vaccine will be provided. The donation will also support the costs of transport, planning, maintaining the cold supply chain as well as personal protective equipment. 

Binance Charity intends to continue these operations with the aim of providing 2 million doses of vaccine by the end of 2021. 

Specifically, Binance Charity’s donation goes to the COVAX Facility, an alliance between the World Health Organization, The Vaccine Alliance (Gavi) and the Coalition for Epidemic Preparedness Innovations (CEPI). Its aim is to combat Covid-19 by facilitating the distribution of vaccines to poorer states. 

Unicef will lead this process. Binance will provide its logistics and blockchain infrastructure to facilitate traceability. 

It will also issue its own NFT on the Binance Smart Chain to raise awareness of the need to raise funds to fight Covid by ensuring all nations have equal opportunities on the vaccine front. 

Sandra Visscher, Executive Director of UNICEF Luxembourg explained:

“Vaccines do not only save lives, but they contribute to a return to normal, including for the many millions of children whose lives have been upended by the pandemic. UNICEF wants to ensure equitable access to vaccines for everyone, as the world will only be safe if everyone is safe. Since UNICEF is at the forefront of procuring and delivering vaccines, we can help to bring the pandemic under control so that we can start the work to build a better, safer, and healthier future for every child”.
