Jeff Bezos: Covid-19 brought him $81.5 billion in earnings

Jeff Bezos, founder of Amazon and Blue Origin, has earned $81.5 billion from the Covid-19 pandemic, according to an Oxfam report. Italian art critic Vittorio Sgarbi calls on the billionaire to pay restitution for closed businesses.

Jeff Bezos’ earnings during Covid-19

According to reports, one of the world’s 10 richest men, Jeff Bezos, during Covid-19 apparently earned a whopping $81.5 billion, the equivalent of the worldwide cost of vaccination.

In response to the current situation in Italy, the well-known art critic Vittorio Sgarbi tweeted his idea:

According to Sgarbi, the call to pay compensation to businesses closed because of the pandemic is a solution to restore economic balance. Something that, unfortunately, did not happen at all during the pandemic.

Jeff Bezos and the widening gap between rich and poor

On the occasion of the opening of the World Economic Forum in Davos, the international confederation Oxfam published its report “The pandemic of inequality”, showing staggering numbers.

In the first two years of the Covid-19 pandemic, the 10 richest men in the world doubled their assets, at a rate of $15,000 per second and $1.3 billion per day.

Jeff Bezos, but also Elon Musk, CEO of Tesla, are part of this ranking. In this regard, Gabriela Bucher, director of Oxfam International commented:

“Already at this moment, the 10 super-rich hold six times more wealth than the wealth of the poorest 40% of the world’s population of 3.1 billion people. Even if they saw the value of their fortunes reduced by 99.993%, they would still be titled members of the global top-1%.”

In essence, the gap between the world’s rich and poor has widened during the pandemic.

The rich and space travel

Just before Christmas 2021, the former CEO of Tron, Justin Sun announced that he was the one who had won the trip to space on Jeff Bezos’ Blue Origin rocket six years earlier, and that he is now finally ready to make his flight in 2022.

A new experience for Sun, which cost him $28 million and which he will be able to share with five other people he has selected. The “Sea of Stars” campaign is under way, in which Sun will decide which people will be able to follow him on the journey.

At the beginning of last December, Elon Musk apparently sent a letter to SpaceX employees warning that the company could be at risk of bankruptcy in 2022.

A message defined by himself on Twitter as his “paranoia”, which has been triggered by the need for the spacecraft to perform a test flight at least once every fortnight in 2022.
