France: The Beaugrenelle is first shopping centre to accept crypto

The Beaugrenelle in Paris’ 15th arrondissement, which has 110 shops, announced that it will accept cryptocurrency payments from Wednesday, becoming the first shopping centre in France to do so.

“FLASH – Paris: the Beaugrenelle shopping centre is the first in France to accept the purchase of gift cards – usable in its shops – in cryptocurrencies, through the Lyzi application. This will be possible from this Wednesday”.

It is an initiative made possible thanks to a partnership with the French app Lyzi, which allows, among other things, to accept payments in crypto.

Basically, users will be able to purchase a Beaugrenelle gift card through the Lyzi app by spending their choice of 21 different cryptocurrencies, including Bitcoin (BTC) and Ethereum (ETH), and then use it for purchases in the mall’s shops

On this subject, Stéphane Briosne, director of Beaugrenelle Paris said:

“The acceptance of cryptocurrencies for the purchase of our gift card today is new proof of this and we are happy to be the first to be able to offer it”.

Damien Patureaux, head of Lyzi, also commented on the news in a statement as follows:

“We are convinced that blockchain should be an indispensable component of the financial and retail ecosystem. We already have 1,500 connected outlets in the pre-marketing phase”.

Lyzi, the fintech app, is not registered as a digital asset service provider (DASP) with the French financial markets authority (AMF), but relies on service provider Zebitex, which obtained DASP registration last year, both for its digital asset custody service and as a digital asset trading platform.

Not only that, from 8 June to 8 July in the shopping centre, employees of the Lyzi application will present their solution to help familiarize the public with this type of payment.

Companies around the world that have chosen cryptocurrencies

Despite the collapse of crypto, with BTC still hovering around $30,000, there are many companies around the world that have announced they are adding crypto to their traditional means of payment.

If Beaugrenelle is doing it in France, we have recently seen the likes of Gucci and TAG Heuer open the door to crypto for their shops in the US.

Not only that, Emirate, a major airline in the UAE, has also added Bitcoin as a payment method, with plans to include metaverse and NFTs soon.
