Ledger announces its new crypto wallet: designed by Tony Fadell and without trade-offs

Ledger has revealed its new crypto wallet, the cryptographic hardware wallet designed by Tony Fadell, the American engineer who created the iPod and former senior vice president of Apple’s iPod division.

The news surfaced on the official Bitcoin News Twitter account, which reads:

“Ledger’s new crypto device was designed by Tony Fadell, an American engineer and former senior vice president of Apple’s iPod division.”

Ledger Stax: all the details on the new crypto wallet

On Tuesday, hardware wallet maker Ledger announced the launch of a new device called Ledger Stax. The machine was designed by iPod creator Tony Fadell, and French company Ledger says the new device was built with an uncompromised secure architecture.

Ledger’s new hardware wallet is about the same size as a credit card, also features a customizable e-ink touch screen and offers capacitive touch. The France-based cryptocurrency hardware wallet maker is well known for creating hardware wallets such as the Nano.

Similarly, Stax allows users to protect their cryptocurrency assets and non-fungible tokens (NFTs) in an environment equipped with EAL 5+ certified secure elements. The new machine was designed by Tony Fadell, an American engineer and former senior vice president of Apple‘s iPod division.

Reports explain that in 2001 Apple supported Fadell’s idea to create an MP3 player and online music store. That year, Fadell was hired to assemble and manage the iPod division and special projects in April.

Besides the iPhone, Apple’s iPod has been one of the company’s most successful products. Fadell said that when it came to cryptographic hardware wallets, he tested a number of competitors:

“Digging into Ledger’s proven security technology and trying all the ‘best’ hardware wallets out there convinced me to build a next generation device with Pascal, Ian and the amazing team at Ledger.”

In addition, Fadell added that the need is not so much for ease of use, rather for a user-friendly tool to bring digital asset security to everyone, not just experts.

Ledger Stax will be an out-of-the-box tool: here’s why

According to the information received, the Stax battery can last for weeks or even months on a single charge. In addition, Stax offers Qi wireless charging and a magnet array for magnetic stacking.

The new hardware portfolio specifically takes advantage of a USB-C connection to connect to a computer and Bluetooth technology so that it can connect with Ledger’s mobile app.

Not only that, according to Ledger, the new user interface also allows for clear and intuitive interaction, the company added:

“Out of the box, Ledger Stax lets you manage your NFT collection and over 500 coins and resources.”

Ian Rogers, Chief Experience Officer at Ledger, who is enthusiastic about the project and the collaboration with Fadell, said:

“Tony Fadell has both the circuit board and the billboard in mind when building a product. With Ledger Stax we have created a device that is beautiful and fun.”

According to the hardware wallet manufacturer, Stax will be available to the public by March 2023, and Ledger is currently taking pre-orders. Ledger also says that in addition to the sale on its website, selected retailers such as Best Buy will also carry the Stax device.

Before Ledger Stax: the Nano X and Nano S wallets

The two different wallets available on Ledger, prior to the announcement of the new crypto wallet, are the Nano X and Nano S, respectively. Both devices are easy to use, support all major coins and tokens, and can be managed via a mobile or desktop app.

However, while quite similar, they have some different features that are worth looking at. Starting with Ledger Nano X, we know that it is compatible with Desktop, iPhone, and Android, supports up to 100 applications, and has the availability of Bluetooth connection.

In contrast, Ledger Nano S is compatible with Desktop and Android, but not with iPhone. It also supports fewer applications, up to three at a time, and does not have Bluetooth.
