One of the least predictable consequences of the drop in the price of Bitcoin was the increase in Google searches.
According to Google Trends, since the week of the collapse, searches for the word bitcoin have been growing again.
Since the peak of searches in December 2017, a sharp decline had begun, which in November 2018 had brought the level of searches to one-twelfth of that of December.
The collapse almost doubled the number of searches, which returned for a couple of weeks to the levels of the end of April, even though in the first days of December the volume of searches returned to the minimum annual levels.
The dynamics were similar in several countries of the world, such as the USA or Italy, but the biggest increase was in Switzerland, where from mid-November the number of searches almost tripled compared to the beginning of the month, returning to the levels of late February.
It should be noted that in Switzerland, while searches for the word bitcoin increased considerably at the end of November, the volume of searches for the word ICO, on the other hand, continued to fall, so much so that it even reached zero on November 25th, 2018.
A similar fate was experienced by the searches for the word Ethereum, which in the last month fell considerably in Switzerland, dropping to zero on November 11th.
In reality, the searches for ICO and Ethereum are also suffering greatly in the rest of the world, while those related to bitcoin grew at the end of November, but this dynamic is much more evident in the Swiss state.
In the country, the areas from which most Google searches are done are Zug and Zurich, while in Italy they are Trentino-Alto Adige (the region of Rovereto), Friuli-Venezia Giulia, Lombardia, Veneto and Piemonte.
As for the USA, however, the countries with the most searches are Hawaii, California, Washington, New York and Nevada, although it is legitimate to be doubtful about Google Trends’ accuracy of regional data.
One last fun fact: in Italy, in the last 30 days, the main search on Google related to bitcoin is, not by chance, “bitcoin collapse”, which seems to confirm that there is a correlation between the collapse and the increase in searches, but it is even more surprising that in second place among the related topics there is Marco Baldini.
Marco Baldini is a well-known Italian radio host and in recent weeks he has been involved unbeknownst to him in one of the various fraud attempts by those organizations that promise millions with initial investments of a few hundred euros and that exploit the name “Bitcoin”, even though they have nothing to do with BTC.
Unfortunately, the hoax that involved the name of the DJ seems to have been successful, so much so as to be among the topics related to Bitcoin most searched on Google.
Let’s be clear: Bitcoin has nothing to do with these fraud attempts, except for the fact that its name is used inappropriately to promote them and even the name of Marco Baldini has nothing to do with it apart from being used for the purpose of advertising the scam project.
