The official Fortnite store has now decided to start accepting the Monero crypto, thus adding a new payment method in the shop.
The Monero team has also confirmed the news on Reddit and Twitter. Even the players of the free video game by Epic Games will be able to spend the privacy coin for micro-payments within the game.
Payments with the Monero cryptocurrency are now added to the PayPal, debit and credit cards and Google Play options. Payment processes are facilitated by an intermediary, GloBee, who takes care of instantly converting the cryptocurrency so that Fortnite does not have problems with Monero’s volatility.
GloBee also processes Bitcoin (BTC), Ethereum (ETH), Litecoin (LTC), XRP and Dogecoin (DOGE) but for now, the Fortnite team accepts only Monero.
The developer of Monero Riccardo Spagni has explained that this is because the team of Epic Games is very concerned about the privacy of users, but soon other cryptocurrencies will be added.
Too cool: the Fortnite merch store (https://t.co/KNL4IFCFHk) lets you pay in Monero, so now you can purchase that sweet Durrr Burger onesie without your friends / family / coworkers judging you. https://t.co/XYs1NjGvGp
