Waltonchain: an upgrade after the hacker attack

In a recent announcement, Waltonchain, a project that deals with VOIT (Value Internet of Things), announced that it had upgraded the blockchain following a hacker attack a few days ago.

As the announcement says, a vulnerability in the blockchain code was exploited which allowed hackers to increase the so-called “coinage score” and thus mine many blocks at the same time, starting with block 175368.

Fortunately, the anomaly was immediately noticed thanks to both the developers and the community that supports this blockchain and in particular the KIRINMINER community. The upgrade has been added starting from block 175366 and, in this way, it will exclude the new blocks mined during the attack.

All miners will, therefore, need to update the code and wallets in order to operate. The code is always open source and has been updated on GitHub; the new version of the wallet is 1.1.2 and has been available since yesterday.

The upgrade also includes:

  • Update of the PoS algorithm: the difficulty of mining will decrease as the balance of the wallet connected to mining increases;

  • Correction of the CoinAge exploit;
  • Cancellation of the wallet balance requirement for the creation of smart contracts.

As the team has also been reminded, under no circumstances will Waltonchain contact users for information about their wallets, so any contact received is intended as a scam attempt.
