5000 ETH scam using the Pundi X name

A new 5000 ETH scam has been discovered using the name of the crypto company Pundi X.

One of the most used strategies by criminals in the blockchain and crypto world is to exploit the popularity of famous people, for example as happened in the case of Greta Thunberg, as well as well-known blockchain projects such as the launch of ETH 2.0. Such situations are similar to what happened to Pundi X, renowned for its crypto smartphone.

In fact, web criminals have started to use – obviously without any rights – the name of the company to present a 5000 ETH giveaway.

The scammers published a fake post on Medium and set up a website, Pundixclassic.com, through which they invited users to send ETH – minimum 0.1 and maximum 20 ETH – with the promise to send back between 1 and 200 ETH to those who carried out the transaction. This is obviously a full-fledged scam to steal ETH from users.

Analyzing the address posted, it is possible to see that it was created 10 months ago, on April 12th, 2019 to be precise, whereas the original Pundi X website is more than 2 years old.

Moreover, the name of the website itself is misleading since the word classic was added after Pundix, although it is certainly not the official website.

The site also refers to an unknown Pundi X Classic (NPXC), obviously different from the original which is Pundi X (NPXS).

As if that wasn’t enough, the address contains a smart contract from which it is clear that the code is not set to return any crypto.

Unfortunately, some inexperienced users have fallen for the scam and the address contains some transactions for a total of 14 thousand ETH, currently about 2 million dollars.
