IOTA launches Tangle EE Working Group

IOTA has announced the launch of Tangle EE Working Group. It is a working group created in collaboration with the Eclipse Foundation. The aim is to develop data, payment systems and solutions that incorporate IOTA’s tangle

This working group includes several giants, not just companies but also academies, including Dell Technologies and STMicroelectronics. The other 13 members are:

  • Software AG,
  • Object Management Group,
  • accessec,
  • Energinet,
  • BiiLabs,
  • Calypso Network Association,
  • ENGIE Lab CRIGEN,
  • RWTH Aachen University,
  • AKITA,
  • Geometric Energy Corporation,
  • TMForum,
  • Otto von Guericke University Magdeburg
  • IoTIFY.

In the announcement published on Medium, IOTA reveals that it wants to be the first DLT that is truly scalable, without fees and decentralized. This is why it aspires to a leadership role that it intends to assert via the Tangle EE Working Group:

“We have solidified our role as a world-leading center for DLT research and development. It is now time to provide a vendor-neutral governance framework under which organizations can build enterprise-grade solutions on IOTA”.

Basically, IOTA imagines a system that is able to build the backbone of the digital economy that contemplates the presence of man and machine. In order for this to happen, there must be the collaboration of stakeholders from all major industries, in which everyone will have to provide their expertise. For its part, IOTA will contribute with its reliability.

The choice to collaborate with the Eclipse Foundation to form Tangle EE was made because Eclipse is one of the most accredited open source foundations, able to provide organizations with a professional environment in which to operate.

The Tangle EE Working Group is already operational

The group is actually already operational, with two projects on which it is focusing:

  • Unified identity: this is the implementation of the unified identity protocol already initiated by IOTA and which aims to solve the problems of privacy and trust on the Internet.
  • Decentralized marketplace: the aim of which is to create, as the name suggests, a marketplace without intermediaries for the trading of data, products and services. This is also a project on which IOTA was already working.

The group is not defined but is open to new members.

Mike Milinkovich, executive director of the Eclipse Foundation, explains:

“The Eclipse Foundation will provide a vendor-neutral governance framework for open collaboration, with IOTA’s scalable, feeless, and permissionless DLT as a base,” said Mike Milinkovich, executive director of the Eclipse Foundation. “By doing so, we will accelerate the development of new applications built with this transformative technology”.

David Sønstebø, co-founder of IOTA, said:

“As an open-source project, we realize the importance of increasing access to IOTA’s technology,” said David Sønstebø, IOTA co-founder. “This is a significant step forward for the IOTA Foundation and our ecosystem to develop a diverse, global community of contributors and adopters collaborating on production-ready commercial applications”.

Dominik Schiener, co-founder of IOTA Foundation, concludes:

“As IOTA’s technologies continue to be adopted in commercial use cases, this transparent and open governance framework will be essential in regulating code development, ensuring market fit, and fulfilling our promises of openness, interoperability, and sustainability. This will elevate IOTA to production-readiness”.
