SS Lazio and Sorare: fantasy football on the blockchain

The Italian football team SS Lazio has announced a partnership with Sorare to bring fantasy football on the blockchain.

This partnership will bring Lazio’s players on Ethereum thanks to special NFTs.

Starting from today, collectors’ tokens related to the player Ciro Immobile, the current top scorer of the major Italian soccer series with 27 goals, have been made available on Sorare’s online platform, and more will be made available soon.

In fact, the company can now count on 40 official licenses obtained from 40 clubs, including Juventus, Napoli and Roma, which are almost all the main Italian Serie A teams. Juventus is currently first in the standings, followed by Lazio, with Roma and Napoli in fifth and sixth place.

Sorare has also made agreements with teams that play in the top division championships of other nations, such as Atletico Madrid, Porto and Schalke.

Using non-fungible tokens, the company wants to create a new way for fans to get involved in this area, especially with their favourite players. This allows them to play fantasy football and earn money, turning a passion into a potential earning opportunity.

The players’ NFTs, called “player cards”, are issued in limited edition, and the Ethereum blockchain is used to secure the authenticity and scarcity of these real collector’s items.

For every single player throughout each season, Sorare issues a unique NFT, 10 Super Rare player cards, and 100 Rares.

In recent weeks some of these player cards have been purchased for over $2,000, since, once acquired, they can be used within the game for weekly competitions. They can also be traded on the secondary market or on platforms that allow them to be exchanged.

The players, called “managers”, each week make up teams of five player cards to compete with each other in different divisions in order to earn prizes and unlock objectives.

The managers are then ranked according to the performance of the players lined up in their team, and the bonus points collected.

Sorare’s CEO, Nicolas Julia, said:

“I’ve been following the Serie A since I was a child and I’m very proud to have signed this agreement with such a legendary club. We’ve seen a lot of interest from our fantasy managers to collect Lazio players to improve their teams. This agreement is a key step in our vision to create a global fantasy game”.
