Ripple donates 5 million against Coronavirus

Ripple‘s team announced that they donated $5 million to help the Bay Arena community affected by the Coronavirus outbreak.

The statement is very clear and shows that the focus on this pandemic is not taken lightly, especially now that it is spreading all over the world.

That is why Ripple has decided to make a donation to help people who are unable to buy masks and other medical aid, which is difficult to find, or prohibitively priced, which in turn is allowing the online black market to thrive

To do this, Ripple, through its Ripple for Good branch, which supports various social, educational and health initiatives, has donated $5 million, divided into 5 funds of $1 million each for food companies.

  • Alameda County Community Food Bank: Every dollar donated provides two meals to vulnerable families and individuals in Alameda County.
  • Loaves & Fishes Family Kitchen: Since its inception, Loaves & Fishes have provided over 6.5M meals to low-income, disadvantaged individuals and families.
  • Samaritan House: Samaritan House is leading the fight against poverty in San Mateo County by delivering essential services and personalized support.
  • San Francisco-Marin Food Bank: The Food Bank serves 32K families per week in San Francisco and Marin and this number has already grown by one-third in the last weeks.
  • Second Harvest of Silicon Valley: Second Harvest provides food to more than a quarter of a million people in Santa Clara and San Mateo counties every month.

In fact, even though we are talking about a very active area in terms of technology, 1 person out of 5 has only $400 as a backup, which is an unimaginable economic picture and which without external intervention could not survive.

The area is so affected that it was necessary to call on the appeal even Google which donated $1 million, while Sundar Pichai CEO of Google donated another million and Apple 15 million dollars, guaranteeing also high protection for its employees.

On a global level, since the emergency started, the blockchain industry has responded to help the population and has been very resilient to what happened, think of the Binance fund or the initiative of Twitter founder Jack Dorsey who donated $1 billion and even the hackathon to support doctors in addressing this situation.
