Coronavirus, Elon Musk against the lockdown: “it’s fascist”

There is a storm surrounding Elon Musk according to whom the current lockdown measures imposed by the US government are “fascist”. This is what he said yesterday during the presentation of Tesla’s first-quarter 2020 results.

Elon Musk is proving particularly impatient with the measures taken in the United States to contain the contagion.

According to CNBC, Musk has described the order to stay at home as something outside the guaranteed rights:

“Forcibly imprisoning people in their homes against all their constitutional rights.”

Then he went on to add that those who decide to stay at home are free to do so,

“but to say that they cannot leave their house, and they will be arrested if they do, this is fascist. This is not democratic. This is not freedom. Give people back their goddamn freedom”.

On the same occasion, Elon Musk actually expressed concern about the future of his plants, particularly the one in Fremont, California, which are waiting to start production again.

Elon Musk’s desire for freedom was also expressed via twitter with an unequivocal post:

Only a few hours earlier he had posted a graph that shows how the number of infected by Coronavirus is much lower than estimated, as if to say that these numbers do not justify the seriousness of the measures taken.

On the contrary, he showed instead appreciation for Texas which is restarting its activities.

Elon Musk and the Coronavirus

It should be remembered that initially, the CEO of Tesla was very sceptical about the epidemic, so much so that he called the panic that was generating “stupid”. It was the beginning of March, and Covid-19 was not yet hitting the United States. Then the epidemic struck the United States, forcing the Tesla factories to close their doors as well. Musk contributed generous donations while not sparing his well-known irony.

But now that the situation seems to be back under control, the lockdown measures must be particularly harsh for him.
