Second anniversary for the EOS blockchain

Today is the second anniversary of the EOS blockchain. In 2018 the first release of EOSio, Dawn, was launched together with version 1.8.1. A lot of progress has been made since then.

Here are the most interesting moments and dates of this blockchain.

The path of EOS began in 2017 when, in June, its ICO (Initial Coin Offering) was opened to the public and raised over $4 billion, a still unbeaten record.

In September of the same year the various testnets were launched, and then on June 1st, 2018, EOS was launched on the mainnet allowing everyone to interface with the blockchain, which also had its own foundation.

A month later, in July, there was the first game created on the EOS blockchain, Knights for EOSIO, pushing the blockchain to unprecedented levels, with an impressive user base for the time.

In November 2018, the first stablecoin, CarbonUSD, was launched, although currently it’s not much used and instead the EOSDT stablecoin took over, which allows locking EOS or pBTC tokens, thus bitcoin, to issue it.

Progress was remarkable in 2019, starting with the launch of the referendum in which all users are allowed to vote and create their own referendum. The EOS blockchain reached one million accounts created and the new EUA (EOS User Agreement) constitution was published. In May, the REX (Resource Exchange) was launched, which smoothed out the costs for developers by allowing them to borrow cheap resources.

In addition, exactly one year ago, there was the launch of the Voice project, the decentralized social network of EOS. Other news followed, such as the hard fork of the network with a new version of the system.

There was no shortage of incidents: when the network had recently been upgraded, block.one was sanctioned by the SEC for $24 million.

On November 1st, 2019, the EIDOS smart contract was activated, which brought the network to its knees and overloaded it, creating quite a few problems in those days.

It is also worth mentioning the launch of the Mastering EOS book (free and available on Amazon).

2020 has seen a speedy start, with Liberland which will use the EOS blockchain. On Valentine’s Day, the social network Voice was launched, in March there was a record number of transactions with over 100 million executed in 24 hours, and finally a couple of days ago block.one voted on the EOS blockchain, choosing 10 different Block Producers, which will be rotated in time.

There are still many projects to be launched and integrated. It should be noted that Voice is operational only in the United States and will have to expand worldwide. EOS is also working on a patented digital identity system that will replace KYC (Know Your Customer), as well as on many projects in the field of decentralized finance (DeFi) and interoperability with other sister chains.
