MimbleWimble on Litecoin arrives in September

As was recently announced by David Burkett, the developer behind the project aimed at integrating the MimbleWimble protocol on Litecoin (LTC), considerable progress has been made and the real testing is expected in September.

The progress that has been made so far has concerned the acceptance of the blocks and their connection to the blockchain. When a MimbleWimble block is validated and added to the chain, the UTXO is updated.

There is also a mempool system with the hope to mine the MimbleWimble blocks to test the end-to-end flow and include MW transactions in the blocks, validate them and remove transactions from the mempool.

The system then moves on to add the blocks to the chain and updates the UTXO, however, there may be errors throughout the process, as it is still in the early stages.

MimbleWimble on Litecoin: the roadmap

The road to the final implementation of MimbleWimble on Litecoin, foresees that for this month of June, the devs will focus on the mempool in order to start mining valid chains with the extension of the MW blocks, making sure that everything works and no errors or data loss occur.

Instead, in July it is estimated the download of the block: In fact, the management of block downloads differs greatly between the two blockchains because Litecoin downloads each block starting from the genesis one, thus obtaining the complete history of the blockchain, while in MW only the blocks containing that transaction and all the outputs are downloaded. The problem to solve will be to synchronize two different systems without interruptions.

In August the roadmap foresees the possibility to disconnect blocks, in order to carry out a reorganization of the network. 

Finally, in September the roadmap should reach the activation of the testnet and the resolution of all the problems that may arise from then on. 

The test phase will serve to verify that there are no leaks and, with the help of the community, there will also be a greater user base to have enough data to pass to the mainnet.
