While its partner Ultra made a deal with dfuse to be ready to launch on the mainnet, Ubisoft, a French gaming company, created Rabbids Token, a system that allows users to directly donate the Ethereum (ETH) received to UNICEF.
How does Rabbids Token work
For this project, Ubisoft has created 5 token families, each with a different image and price ranging between 0.05 ETH and 0.15 ETH.
Even if the system resembles it, it’s not an NFT (Non Fungible Token), but regular ERC20 tokens connected to a smart contract.
These tokens do not stay inside the wallet, meaning that the user does not buy the token itself, but only holds it for a limited time until another user wants to buy it himself.Â
In that case, the token leaves the wallet of the previous owner, who still has a POPO (Proof of Plausible Ownership), and passes into the hands of the next buyer.
In addition, these tokens have a mutation mechanism, at least in the layout proposed by the platform precisely to emulate the diversity that exists in the game from which this initiative was inspired, i.e. Rabbids, in which the characters are all different and elusive.
As said, this initiative has the aim of collecting funds that will then be donated to the UNICEF Ethereum address and thus avoid the whole rigmarole of having an intermediary to raise funds.
UNICEF and crypto
UNICEF is not new to blockchain and crypto as it has already set up several portals and collaborations, for example the one with the Litecoin Foundation, and can already boast the acceptance of 9 different crypto assets including Bitcoin (BTC), Ethereum (ETH), several ERC20 tokens, Litecoin (LTC), Ripple (XRP), DAI, Dash, Monero (XMR), EOS and Stellar (XLM).
Ubisoft and the world of blockchain gaming
For its part, Ubisoft is always trying to keep up with the times and thanks to the Strategic Innovation Lab it is trying to anticipate the future and be active in the blockchain sector.
Ubisoft has in fact funded various startups, including important names such as immersiv.io, Splinterlands, Planetarium, Xaya, Caregame, Atlantis, Sorare and Sky Mavis, all of which are games that in one way or another integrate blockchain technology, like for example the aforementioned partnership with the Ultra blockchain.
