The new technological ERA dedicated to smart companies

Industry 4.0 is already a reality and involves Blockchain and new production technologies to make the processes adopted by smart companies more and more intelligent.

Internet of Thing (IoT), Artificial Intelligence, Cloud Computing, Autonomous Robotics, Cyber Security, Big Data and Blockchain are just some of the innovative technologies that represent the next and advanced step, as well as the progress of the protagonist of the third industrial revolution: digital.

In essence, these technologies are integrated into the processes of various business functions, in some cases replacing the existing ones and automating them, correcting the problems, saving resources and energy and leaving space for human creativity to continue its evolution.

Obviously, not all companies are ready yet. When we talk about revolutions and changes, not all market players have the same reaction. Yet, observing the increasing use of these new technologies in recent years, the results are clear: a performance optimization for new smart companies.

Smart companies can be defined as companies that see progress as the cause of their growth and prosperity.

The EarthBi project was born with this in mind, integrating in its main challenge against environmental pollution, the use of blockchain technology that makes both the precious bioplastic production processes and the related certifications intelligent.

How Blockchain improves the other Industry 4.0. technologies

In general, Blockchain is a distributed ledger, without an owner, that records data and works transactions and smart contracts through a chosen consensus protocol that relies on mathematical algorithms.

Therefore, there is no third authority that validates the process but it is the blockchain itself that does this through approval by the nodes (called miners), that solve the algorithms and can therefore confirm the transactions within the block. The block, once completed, is added to the reference blockchain.

A key feature is that, as long as there is no hierarchy between the nodes, blockchain can be defined as the decentralized technology par excellence that, through this mechanism, shows its transparency and security in the continuous and public updating of the digital data ledger.

Furthermore, the data entered on the public blockchain are accessible to all but remain encrypted, ie in the form of a string of numbers that only nodes that own the key can decrypt.

    blockchain to perform industry 4.0.

As reported, it is interesting to understand how the distributed ledger interacts by completing and performing some technologies of Industry 4.0.

    Big Data and Blockchain

With Big Data we mean the use of systems or software that can store and process data sets and then extract, analyze, learn, evaluate and provide useful and valuable information for the decision-making process of smart companies.

Combining Big Data and Blockchain in an industrial environment could make it possible to migrate large amounts of data on computer systems created for its storage, freeing up time, space and energy for traditionally used software.

This would improve both internal and external management of available company information in terms of:

    • Speed: with the continuous need for data collection to be analyzed, the same can be saved in a short time on the blockchain, thus freeing the data archive in the Big Data processing software that provides the information. By speeding up the process, entrepreneurs are encouraged to focus totally on the core business and decision-making processes;
    • Quality: using decentralized Blockchain technology for data collection is transparent and therefore external interventions or possible manipulation of the collected data are excluded.
    Cloud Computing and Blockchain

Talking about data archives, cloud computing is also involved in Industry 4.0. but it has limitations that are solved using blockchain thanks to its secrecy due to encryption.

In fact, saving corporate or personal information in the cloud has advantages over software as it is a lightweight archive, but since it is centralized it is unpredictable and could suffer from attacks such as the random generation of passwords.

Using blockchain, the key is cryptography which allows access to the data registered only for those who own it, resulting in a digital archive, light and public but also more secure.

    Cyber-Security and Blockchain

Increasingly using Industry 4.0 technologies. even from an IT point of view it becomes increasingly necessary to protect one’s digital infrastructure by reinforcing its cyber-security.

Blockchain is able to perform the traditional cyber-security settings thanks to its decentralized network that allows saving the registry on multiple servers and protecting the data entered with encryption.

Internet of Things (IoT) and Blockchain

All the physical devices connected to the Internet of today capable of collecting and sharing data are part of what is called Internet of Things. By combining these smart devices with information technology it is already possible to see an expansion of interactions: not just man-man but also man-technology and technology-technology.

With blockchain it is possible to progress using the new smart devices to track virtually every phase of any operation, without any central control, thus improving IoT objects from the perspective of transparency and security in collecting and sharing information.

    blockchain to perform industry 4.0.

Secondo quanto riportato, è interessante comprendere come il registro distribuito interagisce completando e performando alcune tecnologie dell’Industria 4.0

    Big Data e Blockchain

    • Velocità: con il continuo fabbisogno di raccolta dati da analizzare, gli stessi possono essere salvati in tempi brevi sulla blockchain, liberando così l’ archivio dati nei software di rielaborazione Big Data che forniscono le informazioni. Velocizzando il processo si incentiva gli imprenditori a concentrarsi totalmente sul core business e sui processi decisionali;
    • Qualità: utilizzando la tecnologia decentralizzata blockchain per la raccolta dati, questi sono trasparenti e pertanto si escludono interventi esterni o eventuali manipolazioni sui dati raccolti.
    Cloud Computing e Blockchain

Internet of Things (IoT) e Blockchain
