    The EarthBi project and its revolutionary vision

    EarthBi is a “green” startup that points to reduce environmental pollution caused by plastic, thanks to a new bioplastic material realized through patented and innovative production processes, with a completely revolutionary vision.

    As matter of fact, EarthBi’s main objective is to reduce the dispersion and accumulation of non-biodegradable plastic products in the environment.

    Looking beyond the current recycling policies regarding polluting plastic materials, which certainly are fundamental but not decisive, the EarthBi project and its innovative product can substitute plastic without contaminating air, soil and water, but also without the need from the final producers or consumers to change their habits.

    Furthermore, the revolutionary ideal of EarthBi focuses on the reconciliation of two concepts that are perhaps apparently in contrast between each other: on one side, the technological and industrial evolution and, on the other, the right to protect life and the environment.

    It is not by chance that, unlike the totally “no plastic” campaigns, which intend to block the entire industrial production of plastic, EarthBi wants to transform the entire sector, combining the continuous technological progress with environmental sustainability.

    It means, therefore, don’t stop in front of the global pollution, but act towards a new direction, which includes essentially three factors:

    • the EarthBi bioplastic;
    • exploit the Blockchain technology to guarantee full traceability of the production chain;
    • take advantage of ERA, the token utility created by EarthBi, which will allow holders to obtain benefits in terms of quantity and price on the raw material and finished bioplastic products.

    The spread of EarthBi biopolymers, innovative and highly biodegradable, is therefore the key solution to the environmental problem of plastics, since they don’t pollute and dissolve in a short time.

    But, how is EarthBi bioplastic composed?

    PLA: the EarthBi bioplastic basic element

    The new EarthBi bioplastic material is essentially both biodegradable and biobased.

    It may seem strange, but biodegradable and biobased are not the same thing.

    In fact, with biodegradable we mean the chemical process during which the microorganisms that compose the material are converted into natural substances, while with biobased we mean that the material or product is (in large part) derived from biomass (plants) or renewable raw materials .

    According to European Bioplastics, it is possible to classify existing bioplastics in three categories:

    • plastics that contain biomass but are not biodegradable
    • plastics that don’t contain biomass but are biodegradable
    • plastics that contain biomass and that are also biodegradable

    PLA bioplastic

    Bioplastic Biobased and Biodegradable, this is PLA

    PLA, or Polylactic Acid, belongs to the third category, and is the basic element for a biodegradable and biobased bioplastic, an element, in fact, chosen by EarthBi.

    PLA is a transparent bioplastic, produced from cane sugar or glucose, that is produced from 100% renewable resources with zero environmental impact.

    In addition to this, PLA can be easily processed by standard equipment designed for plastic production and this thanks to its thermoplastic polymer features with properties similar to polyester and PET which make it bright, rigid and resistant to mechanical stress.

    In general, PLA remains stable at standard environmental conditions of 20°C and degrades by hydrolysis at temperatures above 65°C and humidity above 20%.

    To get an idea of disposal timing, in optimal composting conditions of 65°C and 95% humidity, PLA degradation occurs in 50 days, while at a temperature of 40°C it can take up to 120 days.

    Instead, compared to the immortal plastic abandoned in the environment, the PLA-based bioplastic degrades, without releasing polluting elements, if left on the ground in 15 months, if buried in 24 months and if left into the water in 48 months.

    EarthBi bioplastic is used, therefore, without having to modify the current production lines and also to print complex and detailed plastic products such as bottle caps.

    The industrial sectors for the EarthBi biopolymer are essentially: packaging, cosmetics, automotive, transport, construction, beverage, biomedical and pharmaceutical applications.

    Finally, to ensure a wider use beyond PLA, the EarthBi project is also studying other types of biobased and biodegradable bioplastics, based on PHA – Polyhydroxyalkanoates, PHB – Polyhydroxybutyrates and PHV – Polyhydroxyvalerates.

    EarthBi e il PLA, una plastica biobased e biodegradabile

    Il progetto EarthBi e la sua visione rivoluzionaria

    EarthBi è una startup “green” dedicata alla riduzione dell’inquinamento ambientale causato dalla plastica, grazie ad un nuovo materiale bioplastico realizzato attraverso processi di produzione brevettati ed innovativi, il tutto, però, sotto una visione del tutto rivoluzionaria.

    Infatti, il primo obiettivo di EarthBi è proprio quello di ridurre la dispersione e l’accumulo di prodotti plastici non biocompatibili con l’ambiente.

    Andando oltre le attuali politiche di riciclo dei materiali plastici inquinanti che sicuramente sono fondamentali ma non risolutive, il progetto EarthBi ed il suo prodotto innovativo, sono in grado di sostituire la plastica senza contaminare aria, suolo e acqua, ma anche senza modificare le abitudini di produttori o consumatori finali.

    Inoltre, l’ideale rivoluzionario di EarthBi si concentra sulla conciliazione di due concetti forse apparentemente contrastanti tra loro: da una parte l’evoluzione tecnologica ed industriale e dall’altra il diritto alla tutela della vita e dell’ambiente.

    Non a caso, al contrario delle campagne totalmente “no plastic”, e cioè quelle campagne che intendono bloccare l’intera produzione industriale della plastica, EarthBi vuole, invece, trasformare l’intero settore, abbinando il continuo progresso tecnologico con la sostenibilità ambientale.

    Si tratta quindi di non fermarsi davanti all’inquinamento globale ma di agire percorrendo una nuova direzione che include essenzialmente 3 fattori:

    • la bioplastica EarthBi;
    • sfruttare la tecnologia Blockchain per garantire una piena tracciabilitĂ  della filiera produttiva;
    • approfittare di ERA, l’utility token creato da EarthBi, che consentirĂ  ai possessori di ottenere benefici in termini di quantitĂ  e prezzo sulla materia prima e sui prodotti bioplastica finiti.

    La diffusione dei biopolimeri EarthBi, innovativi ed altamente biodegradabili è, dunque, la soluzione chiave al problema ambientale della plastica, in quanto non inquinano e si dissolvono in breve tempo.

    Ma com’è composta la bioplastica EarthBi?

    PLA: l’elemento base della bioplastica EarthBi

    Il nuovo materiale bioplastico di EarthBi è sostanzialmente sia biodegradabile che biobased.

    SembrerĂ  strano, ma biodegradabile e biobased non sono la stessa cosa.

    Infatti, con biodegradabile si intende il processo chimico durante cui i microrganismi che compongono la materia si convertono in sostanze naturali, mentre con biobased si intende che il materiale o il prodotto è (in buona parte) derivato dalla biomassa (piante) o materie prime rinnovabili.

    Secondo la European Bioplastics, è possibile classificare le bioplastiche esistenti in tre categorie:

    • plastiche che contengono biomassa ma che non sono biodegradabili
    • plastiche che non contengono biomassa ma sono biodegradabili
    • plastiche che contengono biomassa e che sono anche biodegradabili

    Bioplastica Biobased e Biodegradable, questo è il PLA

    Il PLA, o Acido Polilattico, appartiene alla terza categoria, ed è l’elemento base per una bioplastica biodegradabile e biobased, elemento, infatti, scelto da EarthBi.

    Il PLA è una bioplastica trasparente, prodotta da zucchero di canna o da glucosio, prodotta cioè da risorse 100% rinnovabili e a zero impatto ambientale.

    Non solo, il PLA può essere facilmente processato dalle apparecchiature standard predisposte per la lavorazione della plastica e questo grazie alle sue caratteristiche di polimero termoplastico con proprietà simili al poliestere e al PET che lo rendono brillante, rigido e resistente alle sollecitazioni meccaniche.

    In generale, il PLA rimane stabile a condizioni ambientali standard 20°C e si degrada per idrolisi a temperature superiori a 65°C ed umidità superiore al 20%.

    Per avere un’idea sui tempi di smaltimento, in condizioni di compostaggio ottimali di 65°C e 95% di umiditĂ , la degradazione del PLA avviene in 50 giorni, mentre ad una temperatura di 40°C possono essere necessari anche 120 giorni.

    Rispetto, invece, all’immortale plastica abbandonata nell’ambiente, la bioplastica basata sul PLA si degrada, senza rilasciare elementi inquinanti, se lasciata su terreno in 15 mesi, se interrata in 24 mesi e se lasciata in acqua in 48 mesi.

    La bioplastica EarthBi si utilizza, dunque, senza dover modificare le linee produttive attuali e anche per stampare prodotti plastici complessi e ricchi di dettagli come ad esempio i tappi delle bottiglie.

    I settori di impiego industriale del biopolimero EarthBi sono essenzialmente: packaging, cosmesi, automotive, trasporti, costruzioni, beverage, applicazioni biomedicali e farmaceutica.

    Infine, per garantire un piĂą vasto utilizzo oltre il PLA, il progetto EarthBi sta studiando anche altre tipologie di bioplastica biobased e biodegradabili, basate cioè sul PHA (Poliidrossi-Alcanoati), PHB (Poliidrossi-Butirrati) e PHV – Poliidrossi-Valerati.
