The net worth of the renowned CEO of Binance, Changpeng CZ Zhao, has doubled over the past year to $2.6 billion. As a result, he is the richest person in the crypto industry.
This is what the 2020 edition of Hurun Global Rich List reports, according to which there are only 6 billionaires in the blockchain sector, mainly owners of cryptocurrency exchanges and miners.
In the lead, there is 42-year-old Changpeng Zhao, founder and CEO of Binance, with 2.6 billion dollars. In second place is Micree Zhan Ketuan, 41, co-founder of Bitmain, with 1.6 billion dollars, while the third is Mingxing Xu, 35, founder of OKCoin, with 1.4 billion dollars.
Next comes Chris Larsen, co-founder of Ripple, with $1.3 billion, Lin Li of Huobi with $1.1 billion, and Brian Armstrong of Coinbase with $1 billion.
However, while CZ has doubled his net worth from $1.3 billion to $2.6 billion in the last year, Micree Zhan Ketuan’s net worth has almost halved from $2.7 billion to $1.6 billion.
This is because, in October, Zhan was expelled from Bitmain by the other co-founder Jihan Wu, who, however, did not make the Hurun list this year. Last year, Wu’s net worth was estimated at $1.5 billion.
Nevertheless, these net worth values pale in comparison to the heavyweights on Hurun’s list.
In the first place, there’s Jeff Bezos from Amazon, with a net worth of $140 billion, more than 50 times that of CZ.
In addition to Bezos in the top ten there are:
- Bernard Arnault from LVMH,
- Bill Gates from Microsoft,
- Warren Buffett from Berkshire Hathaway,
- Mark Zuckerberg from Facebook,
- Amancio Ortega of Zadar,
- Carlos Slim of America Movil,
- Sergey Brin and Larry Page from Google,
- Mukesh Ambani of Reliance,
- Steve Ballmer from Microsoft.
The latter has a net worth of 67 billion dollars, which is 25 times more than CZ, who is neither one of the 10 richest men in China nor one of the 100 richest men in the world.
