“We are excited to announce that Fireblocks has integrated @soneium, the Ethereum Layer-2 blockchain built by Sony Block Solutions Labs, a joint venture between @Sony Group Corporation and @StartaleGroup. To learn more about the integration of Soneium, read this article.”

In practice, the new collaboration signed by Fireblocks and Soneium aims to build the infrastructure for new digital experiences of Web3.

In fact, on one side there is Fireblocks, a provider of cryptocurrency custody technology with an already significant client base, and on the other side there is Soneium, the new blockchain that aims to create a bridge between the conventional Internet, or Web2, and the emerging Web3.

In the post on X by Soneium announcing the new integration, the features of Fireblocks were listed.

Among others, Soneium stated that Fireblocks’ embedded wallets bring non-custodial MPC technology into applications and reduce complexity. Not only that, Fireblocks APIs simplify building apps on Soneium. For security, Soneium mentions the Policy Engine which will always be active to protect every transaction with granular controls.

Fireblocks expands its support to Soneium

Fireblocks continues to be increasingly present with its crypto custody services. Today it’s Soneium’s turn, but Fireblocks also counts among its clients many large institutions, including major banks.

At the end of June 2023, in fact, Fireblocks had added its cloud support to serve banks globally.

Not only that, at that moment, Fireblocks announced its partnership also with the giants of Amazon Web Services (AWS), Google Cloud Platform (GCP), and Alibaba Cloud.

In general, his idea has always been to make his MPC portfolio solution compatible and scalable for each of his clients, whether they are banks or institutions, also through his support to the giants of the cloud.

Going even further back in time, in 2020, Revolut had also chosen Fireblocks to expand its services related to the crypto world.

The official launch of Soneium in January 2025

Just a month ago, Sony Block Solutions Labs, a subsidiary of the Japanese giant Sony, officially announced the launch of the Soneium blockchain.

The project had already been announced in August 2024, giving rise to a testnet network Soneium Minato, which attracted 47 million transactions on 14 million accounts. Now, Soneium is instead the official and definitive mainnet for Sony’s Web3 solutions.

Soneium is a layer 2 network of Ethereum built through the OP Stack, which is a set of software components powered by the Optimism Foundation.

The objective of Soneium is to redefine the touchpoints between fans and digital creators within the complex logics of the blockchain.
