By now there are more than 20 million bitcoin addresses with a balance of at least 1 dollar in BTC and they are constantly increasing.
In fact, according to what bitinfocharts.com reveals, the number of addresses with at least $1 worth of BTC are 20,070,750, while those with at least $100 are more than 8 million, those with at least $1,000 are almost 3 million, and so on, up to 2,381 addresses with at least $10 million worth of BTC. Moreover, there are more than 7.3 million addresses with at least 1 BTC, while only 3 have more than one hundred thousand.
However, given that each person can have as many addresses as they want, these numbers do not correspond at all to the number of owners, which is certainly lower.
Over the last two years, these figures have been steadily increasing, with the exception of the temporary decrease in 2018, following the bursting of the speculative bubble at the end of 2017.
For example, it is sufficient to look at the graph of the addresses active in 24 hours, which has gone from about 500,000 two years ago to 700,000 today, but with peaks of 900,000 in recent days. In December 2017 alone, in the midst of the speculative bubble, there had been higher peaks, with over 1.1 million active addresses in 24 hours.
Bitinfocharts.com data also reveal that the group with the most bitcoins is that of addresses that hold between 1,000 and 10,000 BTC, with over 4.5 million bitcoins, equal to almost 55 billion dollars, followed by the 10/100 BTC and 100/1,000 ranges.
By contrast, less than 1 million bitcoins are held in total in the more than 25 million addresses with less than 1 BTC.
This shows that the vast majority of bitcoins are held in a relatively small number of very wealthy addresses, and in particular in those holding at least 10 BTC, equivalent to over 120,000 dollars at present.
As a result, while bitcoin is becoming more and more popular, the majority of BTC are still held by a relatively small number of people, since the amount of bitcoins in the addresses where less than 1 BTC is held are very few compared to the total.
