OkCoin: $10 million to Bitcoin developers

A few hours ago OkCoin announced a program to donate 1000 bitcoins (BTC) to developers who are involved with Bitcoin (BTC), Bitcoin Cash (BCH) and Bitcoin Satoshi Vision (BSV).

As can be read on the dedicated page, for each vote made by users, the OKCoin platform will contribute 0.02 BTC, or the equivalent for BCH and BSV, to reward developers.

To vote, the user will have to be verified by the OKCoin platform, which means having completed the KYC procedure and deposited a minimum amount of $100.

A total of 6 developers and 5 projects were selected, sorted by blockchain.

For Bitcoin (BTC) there is Luke Dashjr, who is in charge of BIPs (Bitcoin Improvement Proposals); Michael Ford who is in charge of managing the repos; Jonas Schnelli who contributed with more than 32 thousand lines of code; Ben Woosley who is in charge of Lightning Network; Sjors Provoost dedicated to supporting hardware wallets and Jimmy Song who is in charge of educating programmers.

For Bitcoin Cash (BCH) there’s BCHD, an alternative to BCH written in Go that is 100% compatible with its blockchain protocol; Bitcoin Unlimited, a software that allows speeding up transactions and Bitcoin ABC, a software that helps the development of the Bitcoin Cash ecosystem;

For Bitcoin Satoshi Vision (BSV) there is the Bitcoin association, a global industry organisation for the business world and for the developers of Bitcoin SV, and CambrianSV, a 7-day bootcamp with a focus on building the next generation of products for the real-time economy based on BSV.

“Donations are intended for the use of furthering the development of the respective project and overall ecosystem. However, OKCoin does not impose any restrictions or monitoring on how donations are actually spent.”

The program will end on September 27th and the funds will be allocated to the various projects and developers within 2 weeks, but no later than October 11th. For the time being there are only 3 valid votes, 2 for BTC, 1 for BCH and none for BSV.
