The Winklevoss twins will be the protagonists of the film Bitcoin Billionaires which talks about their story as billionaires in bitcoin.
This was announced by Greg Silverman of Stampede Ventures, who revealed that he has partnered with the Winklevoss twins themselves to bring to the big screen an adaptation of Ben Mezrich’s book “Bitcoin Billionaires: A True Story of Genius, Betrayal, and Redemption”.
Mezrich is also the author of “The Accidental Billionaires”, the book from which the famous film “The Social Network” was based, which told the story of the creation of Facebook, by Mark Zuckerberg, and which made the Winklevoss twins famous.
Bitcoin Billionaires, released in 2019, is actually the sequel to The Accidental Billionaires, released in 2009, which makes the film with the Winklevoss twins a sequel to The Social Network.
The book tells the story of brothers Tyler and Cameron Winklevoss, following the case won against Mark Zuckerberg, and a meeting in Ibiza with an eccentric character who tells them about a brand new idea: Bitcoin.
It was 2012 and Bitcoin had only been born a little over three years ago, so that at the time 1 BTC was only worth about $10. The Winklevoss twins immediately realized that it was either the next “big thing” or nonsense, and they decided to bet on it.
The story told in the book ends in November 2017, when the twins become the first bitcoin billionaires, excluding Satoshi Nakamoto, thanks to their investments and the bull-run of the BTC price.
The book has already been a huge success, so it’s possible that the film may also follow suit. After all, The Social Network, although not produced by Greg Silverman, won three Oscars.
Silverman said:

Upon finishing it, it was clear to both of us that Cameron and Tyler’s remarkable redemption story, coupled with Ben’s masterful writing, would lend itself to a one of a kind movie. We are very grateful at Stampede that we were able to convince them to turn their story into a film and produce it with us. This is Rocky II meets Wall Street in a world filled with unique and mesmerizing characters. This is going to make an incredible film”.
