Summary
Brock Pierce running for Senate
Pierce, who became famous for starring in Disney movies as a child, is currently the director of the Bitcoin Foundation, as well as a well-known crypto influencer.
Yesterday, he officially announced in a tweet that he is returning to politics after running for president in 2020.
Since the media discovered my filing, it is time to share that I am jumping back into politics after a 2020 Presidential run. I filed a “statement of organization" w/the FEC as I weigh running for the seat of retiring Sen. Patrick Leahy (D-Vt). pic.twitter.com/gIVfjR8u3r

In fact, the BrockPierce2020.com website has been redirected to Brock.vote, where Pierce presents his candidacy for Senate in Vermont.
In the announcement tweet, he reveals that he has filed a “statement of organization” with the FEC to run to replace outgoing Dem Senator Patrick Leahy.
The political context of the election
The election will be held on 8 November next year, and Pierce will be running as an independent candidate. Outgoing Senator Patrick Leahy is not running again.
His main rival is likely to be Democrat Peter Welch, although the party primaries for this candidacy have yet to take place. The candidates for the Republican primary are not yet known, but the Democratic Party is very strong in Vermont. In addition to the usual two parties, in the state of New England, there is also a third, fairly strong party, the Progressive Party, which can take votes away from the Republican Party in particular.
So it could be very difficult for Pierce to prevail, and he is definitely an underdog.
Brock Pierce’s commitments to Vermont
He says on his website that he has returned to his family’s roots, moving to Vermont for its beautiful mountains, world-class agriculture and crafts, but also because he sees it as a state with incredible potential.
He says he has developed a concrete plan to grow Vermont’s economy, using his experience and relationships to bring in new investment, start-ups, and create thousands of good-paying jobs.
He also reveals that he has launched an initiative to upgrade the state’s communications infrastructure, which aims to bring broadband to every corner of Vermont.
Fundraising in Bitcoin?
Thanks to the filing of the statement with the FEC he will now be able to start fundraising, although on his website for now there does not seem to be an option to donate using Bitcoin.
There is actually no mention of Bitcoin on any of the pages of the website at the moment, although this is probably still an initial version that could be modified in the future.
