Under the new agreement, fans of English soccer teams will be able to collect, buy, sell and trade officially licensed NFT digital cards featuring all players from the 20 Premier League clubs.
In addition, very much like managers, fans can also build and compete with customized teams to win big prizes.
The blockchain game spans both Premier League and global soccer competitions, as Sorare boasts of partnerships with more than 300 soccer clubs and teams around the world.
In this regard, Richard Masters, Chief Executive of the Premier League said:
“The way that supporters follow their favourite teams and players is evolving and the Premier League is always looking for ways to engage with fans. Sorare’s digital cards and innovative online game represent a new way for them to feel closer to the Premier League whether they are watching in the stadium or from around the world. We believe that Sorare are the ideal partner for the Premier League and we look forward to working closely together.”
Sorare: fantasy soccer with NFTs offers new game features
To celebrate the new partnership, Sorare: Football has launched exciting game features, including league-specific competitions, draft-based gameplay, and capped (limited) mode competitions.
At the time of writing, the Premier League and its clubs have nearly one billion followers on social media.
Sorare, on the other hand, already has more than three million users worldwide, and through this partnership, it will be able to extend its free online sports game to more fans.
Nicolas Julia, CEO and co-founder of Sorare, also made a comment on the matter:
“It’s a major milestone for us as we pursue our goal to build a compelling global sports community for fans and we’re extremely proud to have now partnered with three of the biggest sports leagues in the world: the Premier League, NBA and MLB. We’re incredibly excited and can’t wait to see fans play with Premier League cards in our tournaments.”
Sustainability strategy
Last September, Sorare also announced its collaboration with two special non-sports companies, Plan A and Blisce, with the goal of implementing a new sustainability strategy.
The challenge of blockchain tech these days is precisely to be as green as possible, and that is to reduce the carbon footprint to zero.
In this regard, Sorare has reportedly worked toward this goal before, moving the operations of collecting, exchanging, and playing with NFT cards to the Ethereum Layer 2 blockchain in order to make the system 2,000 times more efficient.
With the new collaboration the goal is to reduce CO2 emissions to precisely zero with a long-term sustainability strategy, with 2025 as the deadline.
