The Simpsons airs an episode about NFT and blockchain in the US

In the special Halloween episode of The Simpsons’ “Treehouse of Horror”, Bart becomes a living NFT as Marge fights through the blockchain to save her son. 

The iconic Simpsons cartoon series delivers a show full of references to the non-fungible token and crypto industry.

On Sunday night, the special Halloween episode of “Treehouse of Horror” number 34 of The Simpsons aired in the US, where the main topic was NFTs and blockchain. 

On X, the news went so viral that many shared part of the episode:

It all starts with Homer, after putting his son in chains, asking Marge if she remembers their wish to make Bart less fungible. So here is the first chapter of the episode “Wild Barts Can’t Be Token”. 

Filled with references to the overrated NFT on-chain, the first chapter sees Bart become a living NFT. 

The episode also sees mother Marge fight through the blockchain to save her son, while the mayor of the city declares that the Springfield Art Gallery will be digitised.

Throughout the episode, there are many first-rate NFT appearances, such as the Beeple, the Bored Ape Yacht Club, and second-rate PFPs that are shown to be almost worthless. This is probably a reference to last year’s NFT collapse.

The Simpsons make fun of NFT and blockchain as only they can

The result of the comments on X shows how well the iconic Simpsons cartoon has once again played on the NFT and blockchain theme. 

For example, NFT collector and Crypto Gallery consultant Noah Bolanowski commented as follows:

In his research, Marge comes across the most eye-catching NFT digital artworks, such as the famous $69 million Beeple collage. 

References to blockchain in 2020 and bitcoin in 2014

This episode links back to one that aired in 2020, before the Covid crypto collapse, when blockchain and crypto are explained in the Simpsons episode Frinkcoin. 

Basically, in the episode, Lisa has to write an essay about the most interesting person she knows and, against all odds, she chooses Professor Frink, who has since developed the crypto Frinkcoin. 

Blockchain and crypto are explained in a video within the episode by Jim Parsons, best known as Sheldon Cooper from The Big Bang Theory, who quickly explains the basics of the technology. 

However, this is not the first time that blockchain and crypto, and bitcoin in particular, have been mentioned in an episode of The Simpsons. In fact, back in 2014, bitcoin was mentioned in a reference to the loss of its value due to its volatility.
