Lugano with Bitcoin Suisse to accept payment of taxes in crypto

The City of Lugano has announced that it will accept payments for taxes and other municipal services in crypto, specifically in Bitcoin (BTC) and Tether (USDT). This has been made possible thanks to the collaboration with Bitcoin Suisse.

Lugano together with Bitcoin Suisse to accept tax payments with crypto

The City of Lugano now accepts payment of taxes and other municipal services in cryptocurrencies, thanks to the collaboration with Bitcoin Suisse.

“The City of Lugano now accepts payment of taxes and other municipal services in #Bitcoin (#BTC) and #Tether (#USDT). Starting today, #Lugano will accept Bitcoin and Tether as a means of payment through a simple and fully automated process, using Bitcoin Suisse.”

Specifically, the City of Lugano, in Switzerland, has expanded the payment options for tax invoices and all other municipal services, including Bitcoin (BTC) and Tether (USDT).

This was made possible thanks to the support of Bitcoin Suisse and its integrated payment solution, which provides a convenient option to accept payments with BTC and USDT for tax collection and other utility bills.

In practice, the citizens and companies of Lugano can simply scan the QR code on the received invoice and then pay with their preferred mobile wallet by choosing the cryptocurrency they want to pay with.

The current integration joins Bitcoin Suisse’s successful implementations in the city of Zug, in the canton of Zug, and in the municipality of Zermatt.

Lugano officially announces the option of crypto payment for taxes and municipal services

This integration represents a modern change in the way Lugano manages expenses related to the city.

And indeed, previously cryptocurrency payments in Lugano were only reserved for transactions made on the City’s online portal. On the contrary, now Lugano extends this possibility to all its invoices, regardless of the nature of the service or the invoiced amount.

In this regard, Armin Schmid, Chief Product Officer of Bitcoin Suisse, stated:

“We are pleased to support the City of Lugano in accelerating the use of Bitcoin technology as a basis for transforming the city’s financial infrastructure. It is nice to see that more and more Swiss municipalities are offering cryptocurrency payments as an option available to both citizens and businesses, integrating traditional payment methods such as post offices and e-banking platforms.”

This move is part of the Lugano Plan, a collaborative effort with Tether to use Bitcoin technology as a basis for transforming the city’s financial system. The plan aims to integrate blockchain and Bitcoin into various aspects of Lugano’s daily life.

Collaboration with Polygon

In addition to Bitcoin and Tether, less than a month ago, the City of Lugano had announced a new collaboration with Polygon, to offer new innovative crypto services through the MyLugano app.

In practice, within the app, expert crypto users will be able to access and manage a personal custody multichain digital wallet, which already hosts several tokens.

Not only that, always through MyLugano, a new NFT collection dedicated to the street art work LVGA/XY Flowers has been launched, which was created on the facade of the Palazzo dei Congressi by the artist Yuri Catania, involving several hundred people.

The mural contributors have received an NFT signed by the artist, developed on the Polygon network.
