Vitalik Buterin transfers 3000 ETH as a donation in Ethereum

Vitalik Buterin, co-founder of Ethereum, has transferred 3000 ETH, the equivalent of over 8 million dollars, into a new multi-sig wallet: the hypothesis is that it could be a new donation.

Vitalik Buterin and 3000 ETH in a new multi-sig wallet: perhaps it is a donation in Ethereum

The 3000 ETH moved by Vitalik Buterin into a new multi-sig wallet, equivalent to over 8 million dollars. According to Lookonchain, the most plausible hypothesis is that it could be a new donation in Ethereum.

“vitalik.eth transferred 3,000 $ETH (8.05M$) into a secure multi-sig wallet 20 minutes ago, possibly as a donation.”

The funds have been sent to an unknown wallet, “0xfEB”, whose owner is not known. According to the hypothesis of the blockchain intelligence company, the address could belong to a charity organization.

In reality, the hypothesis is based on Buterin’s past, who has always stood out for being a great crypto donor.

Last October 2023, then, Buterin himself would have written a post on the decentralized social media Warpcast, stating that he had not sold ETH for personal profit for over 5 years.

Indeed, the creator of the smart contract platform states that it is more likely that he uses part of his assets in Ethereum and other crypto to send them to various communities, in order to support non-profit organizations and do charity.

Vitalik Buterin and the 3000 ETH transferred as a new donation in Ethereum

While it is not certain that today’s transaction by Vitalik Buterin is actually a donation in Ethereum, in the past, however, there have been events that have confirmed it.

Last February 2023, for example, Buterin made his donation in Ethereum to help the victims of the 7.8 magnitude earthquake that occurred in Turkey.

Specifically, the co-founder of Ethereum would have donated 50 ETH in favor of Anka Relief and 99 ETH to the organization Ahbap. At that time, these were donations of $75,000 and $150,000 respectively.

On the contrary, in 2022, Buterin decided to donate 4 million dollars in stablecoin USD Coin (USDC) to the University of New South Wales (UNSW). Here, the donation was intended to help the development of a technology to track the Covid-19 pandemic and thus prevent infections.

Taking another step back and arriving at 2021, then, Buterin donated 1 billion dollars in Shiba Inu (the equivalent of 50,000 billion SHIB) to India’s Crypto Covid Relief Fund for charitable purposes.

The price of ETH

In the meantime, the price of ETH continues to recover ground after the crash that started last weekend.

At the time of writing, ETH is worth $2,636, in a pump of +7.5% compared to 24 hours ago.

The goal of over $3,500 reached by Ethereum at the end of July is still a bit too far away.
