The City of Bari has announced the launch of a blockchain project with the aim of certifying the authenticity and issuance of surety policies through the use of smart contracts.

This project in Bari will dematerialise the issuance process throughout the supply chain, from banks to insurance companies, via financial intermediaries, thanks to the use of Distributed Ledger Technologies (DLT).

The testing will be carried out together with SIA, a European hi-tech company that operates in the services and payment infrastructure sector and, in particular, will be based on the SIAchain technological infrastructure.

The mayor of Bari Antonio Decaro said:

Nicola Cordone, CEO of SIA, added:

The project we have undertaken in collaboration with SIA will allow us to implement policies on the development of new technologies, with significant progress in digitalisation, with the idea that increasing the experiences related to the use of the DLT can generate suitable solutions to support the work of the PA and, at the same time, trigger new scenarios of technical and employment development. This initiative aims to be one of the main elements ready to grow and multiply, to give results that can bring value, both in the public world and in that of private companies, acting as a driving force for other public administrations in order to encourage similar initiatives. Bari has already taken up the challenge of innovation”.

“The launch of the blockchain project with the City of Bari represents a milestone in the field of digital PA in Italy because it shows that local authorities have all the potential to improve and simplify complex administrative procedures by investing in new technologies. SIA supports the Public Administration in this path of innovation with the conception and development of initiatives, in a protected way, which are part of a wider program of digitalisation of the country. We strongly believe that the SIAchain infrastructure will bring significant benefits precisely because of its high performance and security features”.
