A few hours ago Ripple’s CTO, David Schwartz, published a new Twitter post about xCurrent and the upgrade to version 4.0.
4.0 is live. We're working to get all customers upgraded, but it's a complex process. Multihop, xRapid support, much easier peering, and a much easier customer integration process are the major new features.

Ripple’s xCurrent upgrade to version 4.0 is an enterprise solution for businesses that allows banks to make cross-border payments with end-to-end transaction tracking, allowing financial institutions to communicate with each other and confirm payment and transaction details.
As we read from Schwartz’s commentary, the update also covers customer use for better user experience: customers will have direct access to xRapid support, a simplified peer-to-peer and the ability to use the multi-hop feature that allows users to make transactions with banks, payment providers or digital wallets that do not have a direct relationship with each other.
xRapid is a Ripple solution dedicated to merchants for payment services that allows them to use XRP tokens to request liquidity and make payments in real time, significantly reducing the costs of accepting cryptocurrencies or payments in general.
