Bitcoin is the new sponsor of Futsal Florentia, a team that plays in the Serie A of the Italian Women’s 5-a-side Football Championship.
In reality, in this case it is not a real sponsorship, because there is no one who funded the initiative. It is a curious free and voluntary promotion initiative for the most important cryptocurrency.
In other words, the management of the team has simply chosen to put the name and symbol of bitcoin on the shirts and shorts of the official uniform to make it known to their audience and their fans.
The curious idea was born during a dinner meeting, well before the publication of the news that some teams had inserted logo and name of bitcoin on their uniforms thanks to some sponsors. In those cases the sponsorship was real, yet the management of Futsal Florentia decided to promote bitcoin, and not the sponsors connected to it, without anything in return.
The idea was proposed by Silvia Bossio and Luca de Luca, as a social experiment to bring bitcoin beyond the nerd niche. The leadership of the team, which does not appear to be in any way involved in the crypto sector, welcomed the idea and decided to support this experiment.
Futsal Florentia’s manager, Mauro Pomposi, said:
“We are very happy to have undertaken this path in collaboration with experts in the field. We are confident that giving visibility to such an innovative payment system will result in greater exposure for the team. Our goal is to act as a point of reference and union between the women’s 5-a-side football community and that of Bitcoin”.
Team president added:
“It’s an investment in terms of mutual growth. We would be happy to see Bitcoin grow on all levels of society and we hope that the passion of the Bitcoin community will join the sports world”.
