As one of the developers announced on Reddit, the TipJar project is approaching shutdown. TipJar is a bot for automated payments. According to Reddit, support will end immediately, while the website will be shut down on April 10th, 2020.
TipJar, based on Ethereum, is a system of micropayments via social media, designed to exchange and send crypto. It came into existence in 2017, but following the advent of different and more interesting tipping systems, such as the one by Brave, it gradually became unused. As a result of this abandonment by users, the team decided to close the project.
As mentioned in the press release, users are invited to withdraw funds from the wallet as soon as possible, because the website will no longer be reachable after April 10th. For any problems, it is possible to contact the developer on Reddit through a direct message.
As explained by the developer himself, after the shutdown of the website the code will be made open source. He added that it made no sense to continue to invest in a project that was now unused and to continue to pay the cost of the server.Â
“I have been paying the monthly server fees for several years, and although they are pretty minimal, at this point it doesn’t make much sense for me to continue putting money into the service when it’s going unused”.
TipJar is just one of many similar services. Similar to TipJar there’s the now gone ChangeTip or even the older Zapchain whose founder claimed in a distant post that “Nobody wants bitcoin”.
