NeoFS: the file storage system of NEO

Recently NeoFS, the file storage system for the NEO blockchain, has been launched, allowing to send and share files quickly and easily.

As can be read and seen on the dedicated page, NeoFS is a distributed and decentralised system for storage and thus for saving files. Once a file is uploaded to the platform, it can be shared with anyone.

In the blockchain environment, a widely used word is decentralisation, which means – in simple terms – that no third party can hinder a given circumstance.

And the blockchain is practically the only method to obtain this type of decentralisation, also when it comes to file storage: in fact, by contrast, in most cases the servers used are in the hands of a few people who can then choose to delete the content, which in any case is also endangered by failures and hacker attacks.

To solve this problem, a decentralised system has been built, in particular, the famous IPFS (InterPlanetary File System), now already widely used in various sectors and also in the blockchain world.

But this solution, as optimal as it is, is not easy to use, especially for a user with little computer knowledge. For this reason, solutions have been created that are better and easier to use, just like NeoFS.

In fact, the goal of NeoFS is to provide a product that is easy to operate, allowing a user to simply drag and drop a file (maximum of 50Mb, at least for the moment) and select the storage and file-sharing time up to a maximum of 48 hours.

This new feature is free and is still being tested. Moreover, it is interesting to note that the team will also release the source code so that anyone can create their own node and receive tokens.

This is not the first time that someone has created a decentralised file storage solution: in fact, also TRON, with its BTFS (BitTorrent File System) that went online at the beginning of the month, offers a decentralised solution for file storage and sharing to support the BitTorrent network. In this case as well, sharing allows the user to earn tokens, namely BTT (BitTorrent).

In any case, the NEO blockchain is trying to continue with the development of its project and to further improve it so as to attract new developers. Only last week, NEO dApps were finally listed on the Dapp.com platform.
