Red Cross launches fundraiser in Bitcoin for coronavirus emergency

The Italian Red Cross has launched a fundraiser accepting bitcoins for the Coronavirus emergency. The campaign, launched thanks to Helperbit, will be used to buy a second level Advanced Medical Post setup for COVID-19 pre-triage.

Guido Baroncini Turricchia, CEO of Helperbit, said:

“The situation of the National Health System is dramatic and forecasts for the coming weeks see an overload of hospital facilities. The project of the CRI Colli Albani Committee goes in the direction of relieving, in its small way, the overload to which the emergency rooms are and will be subjected. We are therefore pleased to be able to contribute to this campaign, giving the opportunity also to the Italian and international crypto community to make its presence felt”.

The cost of this equipment is about 10,000 € and any surplus will be used to provide Personal Protective Equipment.

The President of the CRI Colli Albani Committee, Bruno Pietrosanti, supports:

“We need to relieve the pressure in hospitalizations, given the increase in infected patients and the reduced number of places available in hospitals. We believe that using an innovative fundraising tool can help us to find the necessary economic resources, which is more difficult to obtain at this moment in history”.

The fundraising is supported by Young S.r.l., a fintech startup operating in the cryptocurrency sector that has always been ready to support initiatives at the service of the community, and Blockchain Education Network Italia, a non-profit association founded in 2014 that deals with the divulgation of Bitcoin and blockchain throughout Italy.

Young’s CEO, Andrea Ferrero, commented:

“I strongly believe that blockchain technology is more effective and transparent to support these types of initiatives. Young is a company that aims to create or leverage innovative models to improve existing procedures and we will always be at the forefront of planning such as the one we are adopting for the Red Cross”.

Emiliano Palermo from Blockchain Education Network Italy, explained:

“During these days of emergency I’ve seen many solidarity campaigns born, one after the other. Finally, also as Blockchain Education Network Italia we are taking the field during this emergency together with Helperbit for transparency in donations”.
