N26 announces the launch of the Italian IBAN

From now on, all new N26 accounts opened in Italy will automatically have an Italian IBAN. The decision to provide an ad hoc IBAN for the Italian market “has developed as a result of listening to the many customers who have expressed this request“, reads the official press release issued today by the fintech company.

As of today, therefore, it will be possible to use N26 as the primary account for salaries or pensions; to directly connect the payment of all domestic utilities and all subscriptions (bills, telephone, pay-TV, etc.); to continue to withdraw free of charge at all Italian ATMs; to enjoy a promotion on stamp duty which, in the event of an average balance of more than 5,000 euros, will be paid directly by N26 until September 30th of this year.

All the features already active for accounts with German IBAN remain valid, such as:

  • notifications for every transaction made;
  • the possibility to pay via Apple Pay and Google Pay both online and offline;
  • account top-up via card, instant bank transfer;
  • Cash26 service at the 588 supermarkets Pam Panorama and Penny Market in Italy.

In addition, regardless of the IBAN change, all accounts remain protected by the German Deposit Protection Fund up to 100,000 euros.

“The Italian IBAN is the result of the hard work of these years: from its arrival in Italy in 2017, to the 500,000 Italian customers in just two years, and is perfectly in line with N26’s global strategy, developed taking into account the local dimension, a fundamental element for the growth and maintenance of the customer base and customer satisfaction. Over the past year, we have strengthened our presence with the establishment of the Italian team, doubled our customer base and launched innovative services such as Cash26, shared accounts with Shared Spaces, new premium YOU cards and extended customer service. Our main goal is to ensure that all clients have the perfect solution to manage their finances with ease, security and speed, which is why we have also redesigned our app to make the customer experience better,” says Andrea Isola, General Manager of N26 in Italy.
