Vitalik Buterin spoke again about Ethereum 2.0 explaining that the Proof of Stake on his blockchain could arrive soon.
In a recent interview during the online Consensus event organized by Coindesk, in recent days Buterin had stated that Ethereum 2.0 would be released in July, which had caused a stir since his previous statements did not give rise to hope for a date this close.
The denial of Vitalik Buterin
And indeed the denial has arrived promptly and today Vitalik explained that it was a misunderstanding, as he did not hear the interviewer’s question well.
“I re-listened to the interview. The question indeed contained ‘July’, I don’t recall hearing ‘July’ so it sounds like it’s my fault for mishearing. Apologies for that. My actual stance is that eth2 is ‘on track’ in that there aren’t any unexpected bumps in the road, testnets are coming along, etc, but I defer to the client devs on timelines and if they are now saying ‘Q3’ more broadly then I believe them”, said the founder of ETH.
Vitalik explained that Ethereum 2.0 is in the works and there are no issues that would suggest further delays, although it will certainly not be released in July.
The release will probably take place more realistically in the third quarter of 2020, explains Buterin, hence only a few months later.
Ethereum 2.0 is not even in test phase yet
Afri Schoedon, coordinator of the Ethereum 2.0 testnet, also intervened on Twitter to explain the timeframe for ETH 2.
Afri in fact explained that the latest specifications have not yet been implemented by any client and therefore not even the testnet has been launched, which is why July would not be a realistic date at all.
Going on stages or panels and putting out dates is not helpful at all. I don't think Vitalik said July. But I didn't see the talk.
