MetaMask: update for the wallet

The MetaMask team has announced the upgrade to version 8 of the famous wallet.

It’s hard not to know MetaMask in the crypto industry: it is an “Ethereum dApp Browser” for both desktop and mobile and allows users to safely manage a wallet and interface with the thousands of dApps and smart contracts on the Ethereum blockchain.

This eighth version of the wallet involves a major upgrade as it adds several features.

Being an extension, the update will occur at different times for different browsers and will arrive first on Firefox and then next week on Chrome.

The new features of the MetaMask wallet

One of the functions that are introduced is the one called Unparalleled Privacy Control, which is the possibility to choose the account to login with.

In fact, until now a user could only login with one account while having a filter and the possibility to choose a second account, the user’s privacy is better protected.

In addition, MetaMask will also integrate a system of permissions, deriving from EIP-2255, to obtain a confirmation message.

Even the graphical interface is greatly improved with the addition of hints, which is very convenient for beginners who don’t know what some terms mean.

MetaMask also informs that the layout is improved, making it easier to read certain details, for example, those related to confirmation or transaction pending.

What’s new for developers who use MetaMask

There is also an interesting feature designed specifically for developers: encryption and decryption of messages has been introduced for Web3 users, especially useful for exchanging messages such as emails and so on (more info can be found here from the relevant APIs).

Also for developers, libraries have been designed to effectively implement this tool, as well as API support for EIP-1193.

It is important to remember that developers will need to update to the new version of the program as soon as possible in order to enjoy all the new features.

Finally, it is revealed that LavaMoat, a series of tools that use Secure EcmaScript to limit third-party dependencies to JavaScript code, is now live and running.
