John McAfee‘s wife, Janice McAfee, has confirmed that her husband was arrested in Spain.
In a tweet published on her profile, Janice confirms that McAfee has been arrested in Spain, and that she is in contact with him thanks to the team of lawyers who work for him.

She says that her husband is in a good mood, and wants to thank all those who are supporting him “during this entire ordeal“.
She also says that both Janice’s and John’s Twitter accounts are currently managed by staff who were unaware of what happened yesterday, to justify the absence of public news about the arrest coming from them.
Janice adds that she cannot comment on the details of the current situation, and that in the future she will also be limited in what she can say about it. That’s why she asks for patience in the coming weeks, and promises that during John’s detention they will continue to provide information to Twitter account managers to post as many updates as possible.
He also adds:
“Regardless of whatever John may or may not have done, he has spent most of his retirement fighting not only for his own freedom, but everyone’s freedom, in America and across the world. For your freedom and the right to make your own choices in life. Now more than ever he needs your support, all of our support really, in this battle against injustice”.
McAfee arrested for tax evasion
According to Reuters, McAfee was arrested at Barcelona airport over the weekend while about to board a flight to Istanbul with a British passport.
He is currently being held without bail pending extradition to the U.S., where he is wanted for non-payment of taxes.
Yesterday, the U.S. federal prosecutors officially opened an indictment against him related to allegations of tax evasion, after the SEC filed a lawsuit against him for collecting money thanks to false and misleading recommendations of some ICOs.
Probably in these days international warnings were triggered, and when McAfee went to the airport in Barcelona he was recognized and arrested.
