Bitcoin surpasses Apple on Reddit

Chevron down

Bitcoin on Reddit had never really smashed through yet.

That is, although interest in the queen of cryptocurrencies on the social network was high, it was not so high compared to other very common topics.

However, thanks mainly to the GameStop and Dogecoin events, it has finally taken off in recent days

Yesterday, for example, news broke that Bitcoin on Reddit had even overtaken Apple

As of today, Bitcoin’s subreddit has exceeded 2.22 million members, while Apple’s is stuck at 2.19 million.

The historic overtaking came about as a result of renewed interest in Bitcoin as a form of protest against traditional finance.

Bitcoin’s rise in interest on Reddit

The resounding success of the GameStop and Dogecoin initiatives on Reddit is primarily due to a protest against traditional finance, and especially against the whales who speculate with big money on corporate disasters or who refuse to admit that the world is changing thanks to a revolution from below (that of cryptocurrencies).

Bitcoin embodies this form of grassroots protest better than anything else, since it is a currency created, developed and disseminated by ordinary citizens, without state or institutional interference.

For instance, Ethereum’s subreddit is also growing, but has not yet even surpassed 600,000 members, while Ripple’s has not even reached 250,000. The Dogecoin subreddit, on the other hand, has surpassed 670,000 members, thanks to the recent success of the price pump.

There is also a subreddit dedicated to cryptocurrencies in general, r/CryptoCurrency, but it doesn’t reach 1.5 million subscribers, while for example Tesla’s barely exceeds 1 million.

Now the next goal for Bitcoin on Reddit could be to overtake the Android subreddit, which is not far off with 2.29 million members, seeing as the growth trend could continue.

The subreddit that started it all, WallStreetBets, is a long way off, and is continuing to grow and could surpass 8 million members relatively quickly.
