AMC: US cinema accepts payments in 4 cryptocurrencies

AMC Entertainment Holdings, Inc will accept payments in cryptocurrencies, specifically Bitcoin, Litecoin, Ethereum and Bitcoin Cash for the purchase of tickets at its cinemas, starting next month.

The CEO Adam Aron expects to soon integrate the meme-coins voted by its fans: Dogecoin and Shiba Inu.

AMC, cinema tickets in BTC, LTC, ETH and BCH

AMC is set to accept payments in BTC, LTC, ETH and BCH for the purchase of tickets and services at America’s largest cinema chain, starting next month.

It was mid-September when CEO Adam Aron reportedly shared AMC’s intention publicly, using the social network of crypto-lovers, Twitter. In the tweet, in addition to the specific crypto that he confirmed he would accept, he also specified the timeframe: “by the end of 2021”.

Perhaps to align with the initiatives of other global giants in other sectors such as PayPal, or out of pure strategy, since that announcement, AMC’s stock seems to have rallied just below its ATH – All Time High of $60 in mid-June.

One thing is for sure, while there was no “effervescent” response from investors via the share price, the crypto-community supported that announcement and at the time overwhelmed Aron’s tweet with “likes” and “comments”.

The involvement of Dogecoin (DOGE)

The crypto-community’s involvement in AMC’s announcement would have fascinated the CEO to the point that a week later, Aron himself would have launched a survey to see whether or not to integrate the most proposed crypto among those accepted by his cinemas.

And so, Elon Musk’s favourite crypto meme, Dogecoin (DOGE), takes centre stage even when it comes to movies and cinemas.

The survey “Do you think AMC should explore the acceptance of Dogecoin?” closed with a 68.1% affirmative response. A result that opened the floodgates to studies of the crypto-meme par excellence, with Aron’s last tweet from early October reading as follows:

“Huge news Dogecoin fans! As we work to accept online crypto payments, now you can buy AMC Theatres digital gift cards (up to $200 per day) with Dogecoin and other cryptocurrency using a BitPay Wallet. Accepted on our web site, mobile app, and in theatres”.

The US cinema also evaluates Shiba Inu (SHIB)

At the end of last month, AMC’s Aron once again engaged the Twitter crypto-community with a new survey. This time the protagonist was the ‘Dogecoin Killer’: Shiba Inu (SHIB).

Here’s the tweet:

“TWITTER POLL #2: As you know, you can now purchase AMC gift cards using cryptocurrency, and our IT group is writing code so that soon we can accept online payments in Bitcoin, Ethereum, Litecoin and Dogecoin among others. Should we strive to take Shiba Inu too?”

An overwhelming result, with 81.4% reportedly supporting “Yes”. At the moment, Aron has not yet shared any news about SHIB, but from this latest tweet, it has been confirmed that the coding to accept online payments for the other cryptocurrencies, instead of the current gift cards with BitPay, is underway.
