Mila Kunis’ studio launches NFT series The Gimmicks

It’s official, the new animated series produced by Toonstar and Kunis’ Sixth Wall will be about wrestling and will allow the owners of the NFTs, which make up the characters of the series itself, to vote, thus actively shaping the plot of the story. 

Solana and the infinite uses of NFTs

Entering a little more into the technicalities, it is necessary to underline that the blockchain of reference in this case is Solana and not Ethereum.

This choice was made with the aim of being able to contain the costs of commissions, reduce the environmental impact of the same and involve both experienced users and novices. 

It is therefore clear that NFTs are not just JPEG files, as many still claim. The uses and contexts in which Non Fungible Tokens can be used are endless and The Gimmicks is a good example of this.

The idea of creating an animated series that can be shaped and in a sense narrated by the fans themselves is absolutely an innovative and almost futuristic idea.

Toonstar’s NFT series and Kunis’ Sixth Wall

As mentioned above, the series will be developed by Web3 animation studio Toonstar in collaboration with Kunis’ Sixth Wall and will feature professional wrestlers trying to get back into the spotlight after a long time.

The Gimmicks was born after professional wrestlers Luke “Doc” Gallows and Karl “Machine Gun” Anderson were let go from WWE at the start of the COVID-19 pandemic. 

From there, Toonstar began developing the concept for The Gimmicks, which includes voice acting from Gallows and Anderson along with fellow FKA wrestlers Enzo Amore and Rocky Romero. Screenwriters Dave Ihlenfeld and David Wright, who have worked on Family Guy, Star Trek and Lower Decks, will write the series.

The Gimmicks, free NFT mint announced

Toonstar and Sixth Wall will launch 10,000 NFTs on Solana. Each NFT will represent a character and the public mint will be held on 18 March.

Unlike the Stoner Cats project that inspired the team, The Gimmicks’ NFTs will all be free, with the only cost being the transaction fee on Solana.

Attanasio, CEO of Toonstar commented on this unusual choice:

“We felt that offering a free mint would encourage a much broader range of participation by lowering the cost of entry into our crazy world. Our goal is to help create a new generation of franchise IP with blockchain communities, so we believe monetization will come in various forms if we build character worlds that people love and want to be part of”.

At the end of each episode of The Gimmicks, NFT owners will be able to vote to decide which narrative path the next episode of the series will take.

Be warned, however, that unlike Stoner Cats, the video content of The Gimmicks will not be entirely exclusive to NFT owners. The latter will simply have access to the episodes before the general public. 

This new and interesting use of blockchain technology and NFTs will surely open the door to many other projects of a similar nature. What Toonstar and Sixth Wall are doing with The Gimmicks is to offer new users an accessible way to start interacting with Web3 and NFT.

Kunis in fact stated: 

“We know the NFT-curious can be afraid to jump in, but Toonstar’s ideas, tech, and content, combined with the low transaction fees and low environmental impact of the Solana blockchain, make this an easy entry point”.
