In Brazil, the company Nemus is using NFTs to save the Amazon, a new way to save our planet’s green lung.
Summary
Brazil: Nemus sells NFTs to finance Amazon forest conservation
Brazilian company Nemus, founded by Flavio de Meira Penna, has reportedly started selling NFTs as a new way to fund the conservation of the Amazon rainforest, of which it owns 410 square kilometres (158 square miles).
Nemus’ NFTs allow buyers to sponsor the conservation of specific and unique areas and tracts of the forest, of varying sizes. NFT holders do not own the land, but have access to key information about its conservation, from satellite imagery to licences and other documentation.
Nemus has already sold 10% of an initial token offer for 8,000 hectares on the first day. Proceeds from the sale will be used to preserve trees, regenerate logged areas and promote sustainable development.
In this regard, Penna said the funds will also support sustainable development efforts such as the harvesting of acai berries and Brazil nuts by local communities in Pauini, which is about the size of Belgium.
Nemus also links user purchases to works of art
Buyers of Nemus NFTs, in addition to all the above rights to save the forest, will also receive a piece of artwork of an Amazonian plant or animal, created by San Francisco-based Concept Art House, a content developer and publisher for NFTs.
NFTs are linked to plots of land ranging from a quarter of a hectare to 81 hectares, identifiable to buyers with online maps. Prices range from $150 for smaller plots to $51,000 for larger ones.

Non-Fungible Tokens to save you from war
Not just Amazonia, Non-Fungible Tokens or NFTs are also being considered to save the people of Ukraine, still under Russian attack.
Yesterday, Ukraine’s Minister of Digital Transformation, Mykhailo Fedorov, confirmed the launch of the NFT Museum, the Meta History Museum of War: a timeline of war in which events are depicted in NFTs.
From tomorrow, the sale of these NFTs will be available, which will serve both to raise funds to help the Ukrainian population and to “preserve memories of war”.
