The French company founded in 2018, Sorare, announced today that it will soon open up to basketball, with the NBA and NBPA leagues.
After fantasy football and fantasy baseball, the digital fantasy sports platform featuring NFTs announces today, along with the National Basketball Association (NBA) and the National Basketball Players Association (NBPA), a multi-year partnership that makes the platform the official NBA partner for the NFT Fantasy Game.
Summary
Sorare adds basketball to its NFT platform, with NBA and NBPA leagues
Next fall, Sorare will launch the first basketball-related game with officially licensed free-to-play digital trading cards next fall, in conjunction with the new NBA season.
The game will give fans the opportunity to interact with the world of basketball and compete with other fans through a unique fantasy game experience that offers users the chance to create a lineup of NFT-based collectible cards representing their favorite players and favorite teams, play and score points based on the actual performance of NBA players.
As part of the partnership, Sorare will have the right to use the official logos of the league and NBA teams in its products.
Nicolas Julia, Co-Founder and CEO of Sorare, said:
“Our partnership with Sorare will give NBA fans an entirely new way to engage with our teams and players,” said NBA Commissioner Adam Silver. “With Sorare’s emerging NFT fantasy platform, we see significant opportunities to broaden our community of fans and grow NBA basketball around the world.
Basketball is one of the most popular sports in the world and we are excited to bring fans even closer to their favorite teams and players through Sorare.
The NBA has been at the forefront of digital experiences and collectibles and our game gives basketball fans the ultimate sports entertainment experience, where they can play like a general manager, own their game, and foster real-world connections.”
Tamika Tremaglio, Executive Director of NBPA, said:
“Sorare has built an innovative gaming experience that creates a whole new way for fans worldwide to interact with and learn more about our players. We are very excited about this partnership and the effect Sorare will have on the growth of the players and the game globally.”
Sorare’s expansion
The new gaming experience can count on two million registered users on Sorare in 185 countries, including European and Asian markets where the company is experiencing rapid growth especially when it comes to football. The partnership marks Sorare’s third collaboration with a US sports league and consolidates the company’s expansion in the US.
Sorare’s free-to-play NBA fantasy game, based on NFT trading cards, will launch in the fall. To sign up for the waiting list, visit sorare.com/NBA.
