Colombia: President Petro meets Samson Mow to discuss Bitcoin

Samson Mow, CEO of JAN3, met with the President of Colombia, Gustavo Petro, to discuss Bitcoin.

From what has emerged, rather than talking about BTC as a legal currency, the main topic seems to have been the blockchain and its application to healthcare billing.

Colombia and Bitcoin: President Petro meets JAN3 CEO Samson Mow

The President of Colombia, Gustavo Petro, met with bitcoiner CEO of JAN3, Samson Mow, to discuss Bitcoin and Blockchain.

“Bitcoiner and CEO of @JAN3comSamson Mow (@Excellion) met with @petrogustavo, President of Colombia, to discuss blockchain and Bitcoin.”

From what has emerged, it seems that during the meeting, the main topic of discussion was the use of blockchain technology in healthcare billing.

This does not mean that, like El Salvador, the President of Colombia may also consider adopting BTC as the country’s legal currency.

This interest could become a reality considering that recently, Samson Mow has visited several countries in Latin America, including El Salvador (where he was a consultant for the Bitcoin law), Argentina, Guatemala, Mexico, Peru, and Brazil, where he spoke about Bitcoin.

Analysts have noticed that Mow spoke with Gustavo Petro about BTC and blockchain as tools for a sustainable and inclusive economy.

Colombia: the President evaluates how Bitcoin can be used in the popular economy

In addition to the meeting with Mow, the President of Colombia himself has also announced that he has met with other experts in the Bitcoin and Blockchain industry. Here’s what he wanted to share with his followers on X:

“We were with Samson Wing, Diego Gutiérrez, Raúl Velásquez, Edwin Rivas, Cristian Quintero and Mauricio Tovar, Blockchain experts throughout the Americas. We have opened several fields of work; 1.

How the entire healthcare billing system can be managed in real time with blockchain programming, as well as properties owned by the SAE and titling for land restitution in the country. How bitcoin can be used by worker cooperatives in the popular economy.”

So, at the moment, Petro’s interest does not see BTC as the country’s legal currency, but rather how it could be useful for worker cooperatives in the popular economy.

For everything else, Petro goes all out to talk only about blockchain technology, both for healthcare billing and for properties owned by SAE (Sociedad de Activos Empresariales), as well as on titling for land restitution in the country.

The collaboration between Ripple and the Banco de la República de Colombia

Last June, Ripple took care of entering Colombian territory with its solution dedicated to Central Bank Digital Currency (CBDC).

And indeed, Ripple would have established a new collaboration with the Banco de la República de Colombia to test and explore its CBDC pilot project.

This is the solution powered by XRP Ledger (XRPL), Ripple’s high-energy efficiency open-source blockchain.

The pilot project tests different use cases and will seek to find new solutions that improve Colombia’s high-value payment system.

By the end of 2023, the last phase of blockchain experimentation by the Ministry of Information and Communication Technologies (MinTIC) is expected, which aims to educate national and territorial public entities about the technology.
