After more than two years of farming on Ethereum’s layer-2, the Linea team has finally announced the airdrop of the new $LINEA token.
Five weeks ago, Ethereum celebrated 10 years of zero downtime. Next week, LINEA becomes the most significant token to enter the ecosystem since ETH itself.

Summary
The new LINEA token: how to receive the airdrop
Two years ago, The Cryptonomist had explained how to participate in the airdrop, and now those who followed the guidelines can check through the official checker if they are eligible to receive the new LINEA tokens.
The token launch is scheduled for one week from now, on September 10th. From this moment, there will be 90 days to claim your tokens.
The LINEA token will be the economic coordination tool of the project, designed to reward real usage, applications, and developers.
The airdrop, for example, will recognize the contribution of early developers, as well as early users and community members.
The distribution of LINEA tokens mirrors the initial allocation of Ethereum:
- 85% of the tokens allocated to the ecosystem, of which
Within this 75%, the Linea Consortium has approved 4% to reward liquidity providers who participated in the Linea Surge, available on TGE.
The airdrop does not include allocations to the team or investors, and no LINEA tokens have been allocated or sold to employees or investors. Simply the remaining 15% of the tokens will be retained by Consensys Software with a five-year lockup.
The LINEA token airdrop: all the details
Fundamentally, to participate in the airdrop, participation in the Linea Voyage (LXP) and Linea Surge (LXP-L) campaigns was required. Additionally, to ensure that tokens are distributed only to genuine users who have demonstrated strong trust in the project, and to filter out Sybil attacks, eligibility also required reaching activity thresholds and passing the Proof-of-Humanity (PoH).

This community airdrop is based around the LXP(L) programs, the most fair and transparent way to measure participation in bootstrapping Linea.
We managed to:
– eliminate over 800k sybils (PoH, Nansen, minimum thresholds)
– reward real users with a… https://t.co/QiLwFsPbtp
In total, 9,361,298,700 LINEA tokens have already been allocated to 749,662 eligible addresses. On the checker, it is only possible to verify if your address is among these.

Participants in the LXP program must have at least 2,000 LXP to qualify.
The LXP holders have been divided into seven tiers, each of which will receive LINEA tokens incrementally. Within each tier, the distribution is linear: for example, someone with 5,500 LXP earns more than someone with 5,300.
Additionally, there are three upgrades, each of which adds a 10% increase:
Participants in LXP-L must instead hold at least 15,000 LXP-L to qualify, and the distribution for LXP-L holders will be linear.
LXP and LXP-L were designed to recognize different types of contributions within the community. LXP focused on on-chain participation, with PoH helping to ensure that the tokens went to real users. LXP-L, on the other hand, was designed to engage liquidity providers during the Linea Surge.
A separate allocation of 1% of LINEA tokens is reserved for strategic ecosystem builders, including key applications and communities: these tokens will be distributed directly to wallets through a discretionary process.
The Linea airdrop is distributed by the Linea Association, and the window for requests will officially open on September 10, 2025, remaining open until December 9, 2025, at 23:59 UTC.

All tokens that are not claimed after the expiration will be returned to the Linea Consortium Ecosystem Fund and reinvested in the Linea and Ethereum ecosystems.
The Layer-2 Linea
Linea aims to redefine the standards of Ethereum’s layer-2, acting as a bridge between institutions and large capital allocators.
It is a layer-2 that has been designed to be the best chain for moving capital on Ethereum.
The goal was to create the most Ethereum-focused layer-2 in the world, to scale and strengthen Ethereum. In fact, the architecture, gas mechanics, tokenomics, and governance of Linea are all structured to bring value back to layer-1.
Therefore, Linea is not an alternative to Ethereum, but an extension of it, also equipped with native yield and an exclusive dual burn mechanism that ensures value is reinvested in both ETH and the LINEA token in the long term.
The Linea Consortium is a consortium of Ethereum-native organizations including Consensys, Eigen Labs, ENS, SharpLink, and Status. The consortium manages the ecosystem fund to support the long-term growth of the ecosystem.
Within the LINEA ecosystem, there is no governance by token holders, but strategic decisions are overseen by the Consortium itself, thus avoiding the pitfalls of token-based voting.
The hope is that LINEA will drive the current bullish trend in strong expansion, but, more importantly, the goal is to provide the Ethereum community with the tools to break out of the crypto niche, to join forces with traditional finance and create a stronger global economy that works better for everyone in the world.
