In the space of 24 hours, there was a real uproar about the alleged data loss due to a hacker attack against the famous hardware wallets Ledger and Trezor.
As we had reported, it was assumed that this information had fallen into the hands of criminals who were trying to sell it on the black market.
The companies involved, however, had already explained that they had strong doubts about the presence of an attack and in fact, Trezor issued an official statement about what happened.
Trezor and the loss of data: all a bluff
The blog shows that what the criminals said is not true, data was not really taken from Trezor:
- Both the content and the structure of the data do not match those in Trezor’s possession and the information has been falsified to make it credible;
- All Trezor data becomes anonymous after a period of 90 days after purchase;
- Trezor’s shop never used the Shopify platform, as stated in the attack.
No data was therefore stolen from Trezor, but this shows how certainly the other statements made by the criminals are also completely bogus.Â
Ledger is not involved either
In the meantime Ledger has also reiterated that users’ funds are safe and recommended not to give their passwords to anyone.
So even in the case of Ledger, it seems that user data has not been stolen, but it was just a bluff on the part of criminals whose aim at this point was perhaps just to make the two companies appear in a bad light.
