Launchpad is a Binance exchange project that helps blockchain startups raise funds to develop their products by placing their tokens on the market.
Changpeng Zhao, aka CZ, founder and CEO of Binance, said:
“In 2019, Binance Launchpad will help launch projects that serve the entire cryptocurrency ecosystem as a whole, for the benefit of people around the world. Bringing token sales to the Launchpad platform is part of our ongoing efforts to create a safer and more open token sale environment, paving the road for a healthier market in 2019 and beyond“.
The projects accepted on Binance Launchpad are rigorously selected, with the aim of creating a higher standard for the token sale market.
In order to be selected, projects must meet Binance’s requirements: presence of strong teams and scalable products, as well as benefiting the entire crypto community.
One of these is BitTorrent, whose protocol helps the new generation of content creators with tools to directly distribute their content to their audience on the web and without intermediaries.
The token sales, or launches, are very similar to ICOs, but while ICOs should theoretically place a cryptocurrency on the market, the token sales place them on the token market.
Often however, the term ICO has also been used to identify token launches, so much so that the term token sale is much less used than ICO.
