Through an app and a link, it will be possible to access the Lightning Network thanks to the new Thor service launched today by Bitrefill. The aim is to increase the adoption of Bitcoin’s Lightning Network.
Introducing Thor, the new custom Lightning channel-opening service from @Bitrefill. Connect anyone to the Lightning Network with an app and a link.

Thor allows to create in an easy way an empty and open Lightning channel on the Bitrefill node that is directly connected to the LN network, without having to own any bitcoins in advance. In addition, the channel will have custom capacities (from 300,000 to 16,000,000 sat).
Each Thor channel has a maximum duration of 30 days, except for exceptional situations of continuous activity. This limit is imposed to cover the costs of blocking the number of bitcoins held on the opened channels.
How does Bitrefill’s Thor work?
To use the Thor service, the process is very simple:
Once you have made your purchase (only via bitcoin, lightning, dash, ethereum, dogecoin and litecoin) you will receive a special link with instructions, which you can share with anyone, and then you will proceed with the installation of the Bitcoin Lightning Wallet application, which can be downloaded from Google Play.
Then click on “Open a new channel”, scan the QR code on the page of the Thor service and then proceed by buying the channel.
Bitrefill is not a new application dedicated to the spread of the use of cryptocurrencies. Last October, in fact, the application had announced the gift cards payable in crypto and usable directly on Amazon.
Today, the Thor service joins all those applications that make it easier for users to adopt Lightning Network in order to perform crypto transactions.
